Lokan posted : OK,

So, I just wanted to post an update of my situation. So, I have taken people's suggestions into consideration.

So, first I did install the Leatrix Latency program, and my latency has improved, at least outside of raid environments. I used to have 150-200ms latency in cities, and it dropped to 25-50ms. So, that's good.

I also turned off the peer-to-peer option. This finally stopped the launcher from believing there was more game data to download when there wasn't. Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to be in a 25man situation; however, I was in a 15man PvP situation. In there, I didn't notice any big lag, or lag spikes. That being said, I'm not sure if 15man groups would give me lag, as I only experienced it in 25man.

I haven't tried the MLPP idea yet, as I don't have a router that is compatible to the Tomato firmware, plus I'm not sure if my DLS modem can be setup in bridge mode.

So, I am not sure if these two things did anything, or if Bell finally fixed the problem. However, I will keep experimenting and keeping an eye on things. Our guild has a 25man planned for next week, so I'll try and remember to post my experience then.

dgass posted : I'll also add, that with single Link MLPPP I run Torrents in the back ground limited to 400KB DL, and I always have Peer Guardian open and running. Ping times have not changed at all for me. Some nights I see as low as 35ms and others in the mid 50s. very rarely to I see more then 100ms. Other then on patch day. Hope this helps.

You know this is a perfect example for why the 4pm-2am Throttle needs to be looked at again by the CRTC and Bell should be forced to change it to an on demand segmented dynamic throttle. At least on whole sale lines. Don't mess with WoW players... and there addiction....

ragingwolf posted : Well, given that the game will constantly stream data to your computer for patches, its likely this is the cause of your latency. I would first make sure you disable all "peer-to-peer" on all your WOW clients. This can be done from the launcher under "Downloader Options".

As blizzard is using some form of torrenting, it is likely tripping Bell's throttle boxes :( This has the affect of throttling everything else on your line while its active, regardless if its P2P or not :/

Thislilfishy posted : If you've got peerguardian or peerblocker on, it severely affects ping times in WoW now(it did for me, even when I allowed the disney addresses). I discovered it by accident. Also I noted that with torrents running ping time would go very high, even if I limited the throughput in uTorrent down to 200kbps. This never was the case. I am thinking the new patch requires a bit more bandwidth then before, the blues in the tek forum had mentioned there was a change in the way data is transfered. So possibly when the third person logged in it was causing a bit of a log jamb on your 5m service. Has anyone measured (is it possible) data usage in WoW lately?

Just thinking out loud...I have no technical basis, just my experience.

Am I right about this or could it be something else? Is Bell aware of this and trying to fix this?

Thanks for any help.
