He should be given a freakin medal for it ;)

Not to take the wind out of the sails of JF's accomplishments, but there have been various factors that have brought us to this outcome. But most importantly, now is not the time to hand out medals, as this means absolutely nothing - the war is still being waged, so don't pop any bottles of champagno just yet!

If anything, everyone needs to double their efforts on spreading both the word and information. The worst thing that could happen is that people become complacent.

In politics, it is standard fair to make such statements, for the sole purpose of calming things down. The hope is that with time, different things can happen, where possibly something bigger can come and take control of the news cycle.

With that said, I do find it interesting that the beginning of March is the deadline, as this will be just before the budget gets delivered. As such, it could very well play out that Harper would go against UBB, as he would no doubt like to get UBB concerned Canadians on his side. He can then push a less than favourable budget, and if the opposition defeats him on it, he can both blame the opposition for forcing the election.

In any case - I'm not a mind reader. I maintain though - we need to keep pushing harder and harder.

I don't think that is unreasonable as this is the second time in under two years that they have made major head-turning decisions that are so far outside the public's interest that they are clearly inadequate for today's technological world.

First it was Wind Mobile now it's UBB. There was also of course the whole net neutrality and throttling fiasco. The crux of the issue is that we now have a regulatory body in place which is displaying very clear signs of regulatory capture. What's more, they are simply not doing their job. You should not need to get the prime minister directly involved in decisions that relate to telecommunications and media every time a major decision is made. There is a very clear reason for the CRTC's existence and it's not serving its purpose.

Their technical expertise is severely lacking and I also question their integrity. It would be phenomenal if some of these issues could be brought to the table in the coming weeks as well - while we have everybody's attention.
