Re: [Android] Tether while talking.

I'm about to get an Android phone. Is there an app that lets to talk on the phone while tethered with a computer?

An app? No.

This "feature" is built into GSM phones by nature.

actually that feature is pretty much built into all Android phones over 2.1 so it doesn't matter if it's CDMA or GSM. It just depends if the carrier will charge you extra for using it.

If you go the rooting route you can avoid the extra cost.

CDMA phones cannot do this by nature. It's impossible.

CDMA can't do tethering? Is that what you are saying? My Incredible, Droid 2, Droid X, and a slew of other CDMA devices can do tethering out of the box. What can't CDMA do again?

No, he is saying cdma phones don't have the capability to talk on the phone and tether at the same time. If your loading a page on your verizon droid while tethering and a call comes in, the page will stop loading until the phone stops ringing or until you hang up the phone.

Sprint 4g phones have the capability to talk and surf at the same time ONLY when your connected to the 4g network. If your in a 3g only area, you can not, just like verizon and us cellular.

Providers like at&t, t-mobile, i wireless can talk and surf while on 3g, but not on 2g, aka edge or gprs. (If your transferring data, calls usually go straight to voicemail) I commonly turn on my hotspot or tether while taking calls on my bluetooth and never drop data. been doing it for over a year or two.

It's nothing to do with tethering either. With cdma, its either data or voice. Not both at the same time. (don't think about talking on your bluetooth headset and surf with your phone on verizon).
verizon is going to have that capability soon. With both it's lte phones and some new technology coming soon with new phones.

oh i know you can't do it I just read the topic wrong from the get go and thought he said CDMA couldn't do tethering. Now I reread what he wrote and I see what he is talking about. He is saying tethering and talking.
