Re: Uvers internet works but video streaming is slow and stutter

Yeah but I don't have a TV service from them and never will get one. It's a waste of money.

They (AT&T) don't care. They want you (the customer) to get frustrated with the inability to use services such as NetFlix thus forcing you to use their own competing TV service which will eventually lead to the downfall of NetFlix. Yep, that's what AT&T wants to have happen.

I guess I'm going to be calling them every day then.

Been trying to watch hulu and it pauses every 30 sec.

They also tried to sell me some sort of crap support service to "check" my computers.

Try a tracert command to netflick.com and hulu.com and you will see the poor response begins outside of the AT&T network.

What are you using for your DNS servers? Are you using the AT&T Anycast ones for U-verse or a third party like Google or OpenDNS?

Yes, with load balanced services like Netflicks, the DNS location is important in determining which video cluster your video is served from...

Dave,

Can you explain again in plain english?

I use whatever DNS is defined in the router. It's all set on defaults.

Sure no problem.

Start with the following at a command prompt: nslookup
It should result in something like this if you are using the defaults:

C:\Users\dave>nslookup
Default Server: dnsr1.sbcglobal.net
Address: 68.94.156.1

Then you can enter exit to finish the nslookup command, the respose to the basic nslookup command will tell us what DNS server you are using.

Next, from the command prompt, enter: tracert www.netflick.com and then post the results here. You can also do the same for hulu. tracert www.hulu.com

The results from the traceroute commands will provide some indication of where the network slowdowns are between you and the video streaming providers.
