Charter lowest-cost Triple Bundle - how much tax?I live in Georgia. I've since ceased to be amazed at how Charter never gives the full story with regards to taxes, fees, surcharges, etc.
I'm looking at getting the lowest cost tv-internet-phone bundle available in Georgia -- 69.97/month for 12 months. Of course it will never actually be $70/month. There will be a dollar or two surcharge or tax increase every month or so, ending up far more than the original tax on the advertised ~$70.
So what can I really expect in the way of taxes? How much have your taxes/fees/surcharges etc. increased from the beginning of your service until the end of your contract?
What's the real cost of having this service? |

Well depends on where you live. The sales tax rate and franchise fee, 911 fees will vary by community. No one can really answer that unless they also live in your area. If you think it's so easy to have a program that can calculate all that so it can displayed on the website you're fooling yourself. |

When I've asked what the total cost will be INCLUDING taxes, fees, etc., in other words what will the "amount due" field on my bill say, I've always gotten an accurate answer. That holds for the phone reps as well as Charter Direct. |

I have the 2 year 3-in-one and it ends soon. Only went up by a few dollars in all that time due to increase(s), I don't even remember the reason for. It's $150/month right now and was "guaranteed" to remain the same cost throughout the 2 years. I recall it began at around $147. This is the first I heard of $70/month for all three services. I'm guessing it's basic TV? Maybe no modem, supply your own? Anyway, that's incredible it could be half what I pay for just digital HD TV (no DVR, only one TV), originally 5Mb internet (doubled or tripled free) and whatever the typical unlimited phone is. I might need to check into this myself with the 2 year renewal being offered to me by mail and e-mail, no price mentioned from them. |

It's not just Charter - we cannot give total tax and fees with TWC either, because those fields do not populate in advance. Only with cable and internet. And tax/fees can vary if there are 411 calls, PPV movies, etc. The highest amount I've seen is around $18 with a triple play/extra boxes/premium channels, and the lowest in NJ around $8.00. I only have cable and internet with Charter, and my taxes/fees are $7.24 on recent bill. |

The two-year bundle is more expensive because it includes extended basic. They don't offer a two-year bundle with "basic" basic - just the one year bundle.
The thing about taxes is, they have no trouble telling you what you owe when you get the bill. There is no reason why they could not use existing data to estimate fairly accurately what we would be paying. It is a significant part of the overall bill that remains hidden - more than mere sales tax, and I find its omission to be false advertising. |
