Re: Generator Disconnect Panel Picturessaid by nunya:FUBAR. "Generator ready" panels are all the rage now. Well that is one large "generator ready panel" I just got done installing one of these - » www.reliancecontrols.com ··· x?30310AA little bit more of what I was thinking with the name of generator ready. |

Or something like this> » www.interlockkit.com/ and just use the original panel and not have to worry about the lineman down the road.. Then leave all that crap and hang a swing for the monkeys.. |

Indeed. Commercial transfer switches, especially automatic ones, tend to cost a pretty penny. |

I don't like the after-gadget InterLock Kit. Too easy to have JoeHomeowner pull the panel cover off and there go the safetys.

Apparently for some people, it is hard. Unfortunately quite a few linemen are killed or injured from this unsafe practice each year.
This scenario plays out every time there's a major outage: Every swinging dick who's ever changed a light bulb or drives a pick-em-up truck is suddenly a "generator expert". They run to Lowe's Depot and get some romex, a dryer plug, and a twist-lock and "get-er-done". Then they drive around town hooking up their momma's friends from church choir for $50 a pop. |

said by exocet_cm:How hard is it to remember to turn off the main then turn on the generator? Its not so hard. But that is not the reason not having an interlock is illegal. A simple mistake, perhaps made in the dark, can easily result in an explosion and a major fire in your home. Likewise, it can easily result in an electrocuted lineman trying to fix the power outage. |
