Re: [CATV] PPV filter

yes it does SDV

I am aware of the cable card fee. and the programming fee still cheaper than cox DVR. It's a long term investment.
Here is a cheaper verson for $250 when it gets released.

A few caveats:
windows 7 required[no thanks!]
does cox even have a cable card that supports 3 tuners?
I seem to remember other posts about the moxi that would render one tuner useless. is that true here?
what makes this different from tivo as to the SDV dongle?
what does the more expensive one offer that the $250 one doesn't?

But not natively!
After looking at their site it appears you can get SDV but with your existing dongle[these have their own little world of problems]
-
I see no mention of ondemand or PPV[Since two way cablecards don't exist, I see why]
from the site: "Supports Switched Digital Video

As cable providers move to Switched Digital Video (SDV) technology, rest assured that your Ceton InfiniTV 4 supports SDV Tuning Adapters as well."

It's not a matter of the cable card being able to handle the multiple tuners - M-cards can handle simultaneous processing of six streams (channels).

The four-stream Ceton card will work fine with ONE tuning adapter on a Motorola-based cable system - the TA will support four streams. On a Cisco-based system it's another story. A Cisco TA only handles two streams. You can hook up two Cisco TA's to a Media Center PC to get around the problem. Your new problem is getting it provisioned correctly.

Some cable companies' billing systems have a "rule" that imposes one active TA per cablecard. In order for some Ceton users to have access to SDV on all four tuners, they've had to lease a second cablecard. The second card is professionally installed in a drawer or professionally duct-taped to the side of the PC (it still has to be returned eventually, easier to find that way...).

That second card (and its fee) sometimes has to be on the account to get that second Cisco TA to work.

But back to the original topic - those filters are for suckers. Legality aside, buying anything to get "free" TV is generally going to cost as much or more than one would have spent on the programming in the first place.

CableCards are 2-way, it's the box they're plugged into that ALSO needs to be 2-way.

Sounds like more trouble than its worth and thats exactly how providers want it to be to protect their HIGHLY LUCRATIVE settop rental biz!
