Buts its an alternate service so therefore the word "Monopoly" can not apply in this case.

well, buffalo and surrounding TWC area's have had wideband for like 2 years before us since there is no fios competition in rochester...sounds like a monopoly to me :|

The fact that the other company does not want to compete is not the fault of Time Warner. You have Wideband now with what you say is no competition.

No. This is not a monopoly. There are still other choices such as Frontier and Clear and the other wireless carriers. Frontier remains a competitor, although a very weak competitor. However, I fail to see how they are going to remain a viable company into the future unless they get their collective heads out of their butts. I myself have checked into Clear recently. Seems that we would see the 4G coverage here in my neighborhood, but only 3 to 6 meg downloads are guaranteed and 1 meg uploads. I think that they would be probably a more attractive option than Frontier DSL at this time.
