Re: Road Runner Cable Cost in NYC after 12 months?

The RR price increased from $44.95 to $49.95, which is why you received a $15.00 raise. Earthlink Standard is the same rate. I have rarely seen an account where a customer was able to switch from RR to Elk for a discounted rate, unless you are talking about canceling, returning equipment, and setting up new account again. You can call Retention if you are canceling, but the lowest rate would be $39.95.

Subscribers usually have to wait 30 days if they cancel service and sign up again for a promo.

However, you won't know for sure unless you call.

You can jump back and forth between Earthlink and Road Runner with no equipment changes or other drama. We've watched customers do it at least four times now since 2009. It's super easy:

1) Enroll in Earthlink on their website. You'll be prompted to call Time Warner to perform the final switch. It's literally a choice on a menu in front of the CSR at Time Warner. They don't care if you change providers. Earthlink is EXACTLY the same as Road Runner speeds, despite the outdated Earthlink website, with just two exceptions:

-- no Powerboost
-- no rr.com e-mail address

That's literally it. You'll see no other difference in the quality of your service.

2) As your six month promo nears its end, call Time Warner Cable and sign up for a new customer promo. The one running in western NY as of this week is 12 months at $29.99. YMMV. The CSR will simply make a few changes on the computer and you are all set.

In many areas, customers are able to jump back to Time Warner Cable's new customer promos as early as two weeks after leaving. That's not true everywhere, however. You can bounce back and forth between these promotions indefinitely. I've watched people do it since 2009 with no problems, other than forgetting to make the change after the promo expires and getting bill sting.

Some CSR's might do this. If I want to keep my job, I must follow the guidelines set out by TWC in NYC/NJ. If I switched a subscriber to an incorrect promo, it could result in termination. Even supervisors, at least in my office, will not approve an offer for which the customer is not eligible. Yes, the $29.95 promo is running right now. A customer with current services, calling in, should not get that rate. If transferred to retention, that price is not listed on the grid.

However, can't argue with an expert. There must be information listed in available campaigns that our office is not aware of.
