quickguide1 posted : hey guys. I got it to work. Called Earthlink and did the account and then spoke to time warner who then asked me why i'm switching. I told them b/c the plan was cheaper.

At first they thought i was getting earthlink and would send s1 to do installation but then i said i wanted to swtich from RR and have the modem already. I asked him about the switch and he didn't know what i was talking about. Then later on, he said there is a switch and he is doing it right now and he was shocked that he could do this, as in switch RR to Earthlink with his fingertips... This was the first time he done it.

By the way, when i did the speed test for my road runner before the switch, it was 15Mbps/s. Now i just tested my earthlink and its 9.63Mbps/s.

So my earthlink is just a bit slower than correct? Is this when the road runner BOOST comes in?

My plan with road runner was the

Road Runner Standard Internet: 7 Mbit/s or 10 Mbit/s / 384 kbit/s or 512 kbit/s or 1 Mbit/s [4] (bursts: 15 Mbit/s / 512 kbit/s or 1 Mbit/s) (depending on market)

Is that correct? It is the 49.95/month one.

And the one i have right now is the 29.95/month for 1st 6 months and then 41.95/month afterwards. So its the 6mbps-10mbps one?

thomasr posted : Sounds like you spoke with someone that is not too aware of what they are capable of doing man. I would call TW back and explain again that you want to cancel RR and subscribe to EarthLink's $29.95 plan. TW can and will take the order and since you already have RR, there is no need for a technician to come to your house - they just change your account on their end, have you unplug your modem and plug it back in.

I have read that some areas may not offer the 29.99 rates - so it does depend on your area. If your address shows up on EarthLinks web page as available for cable internet services, it should show you the rate for your area.
quickguide1 posted : okay. So i called Time Warner. They told me the cost is 49.95/month instead of 44.95 b/c that is the standard price since January 2011.

I asked about the Earthlink and they told me because i am a current road runner customer, even if i switch to earthlink... i would get charged the 49.95 fee as oppose to the 29.95/month for 1st 6 months and then 41.95 fee after that. They said this is a phone department and they don't offer those deals.

I then asked if i called Earthlink, are they going to say the same thing? They said they are not sure. I spoke to Earthlink online support and they said yes i can get it for the 29.95/month plan for 6 months and 41.95 after and i could just make the switch right now.

However, they told me that after i do this, then a technician will call me in 3 days to make a day where they could come over and install it. What i got confused here was people mentioned that they use same equipment and everything is the same. Only difference is no road runner boost and email accounts.

But I said, since i have the cable box from road runner, why would i need a technician to come over? They said installation and cable box was free and i told them i thought i could use the same one. They said a technician has to come to your home to do the switch at your place. Can someone explain how they do this switch? I thought it was going to be real easy where i didn't even need to meet a technician and they were just going to switch the internet like that..

Can someone explain some of this? I'm going to call them back tomorrow. So after 6 months when i change back to road runner, then the road runner technician will have to come to my home? So if i take the cable box from earthlink, that means i have to return the return back to road runner right? But if i keep my current modem, i don't have to return it?

They will ask you to unplug your cable modem and plug it back in... so it can clear out your RR config and load the new EarthLink config. It's that simple.

You mean like changing from RR with say 3 days into the month into earthlink right? Would i get double billed? Such as getting billed 49.95 for the next bill cycle and earthlink at their price? Because right now i think i'm about 13 months and a few days since i had RR.

It will not matter when you make the switch, as you've already been "stung" by being out of your 12-month agreement.

If/when you make the switch from/to RR/EarthLink, if you are already in a billing cycle, they will simply prorate the days of service and only charge you for the number of days you've already used until you made the switch.

So for example, you are already billed regular rates for RR @ 64.90, and you call to switch to EarthLink today, your next bill will reflect the changes/credits/prorating and will be reduced from 64.90 to whatever the prorate works out to in your case. Then you will be billed by TW for EarthLink at the rates set for your area for EarthLink for that promotional period - which is currently six (6) months - then it will go to their listed regular rate if you do not cancel/switch.

All billing and installation is taken care of by TW, so you should not have any problems at all.

You are correct in thinking if you stay on top of the situation, you can keep from getting "bill stung". Just keep that in mind if you switch to EarthLink for six (6) months, you want to call before the end of the sixth (6th) month and switch back to RR -- that way you will pay the "advertised/promotion" rates only.

I have heard many people say they switch cable/Internet/phone quite regular. All you have to do is stay on top of things, and you will be able to switch back and forth and only pay promotional rates for your services - just as long as you are willing to keep up with when you need to switch things around, go for it! So many already are...

These companies do not care... as you are termed a new customer usually in no more than 60-90 days after cancelling services in most areas and can qualify for whatever promotional pricing that is available at that time.
