[Cable] Cable - York Mills - Starting to slow down evenings

I am starting to slow down in the evenings again on TSI cable in York mills.
Anyone else experiencing slowdowns?
Can Teksavvy please order / get a new link before this gets out of hand like previously.
Thanks

Just tried to play 3 games of SC2. Lost all 3 games because of lag, and rusty game play. The lag was a huge factor though....

Wonder what we'll get by the end of the month.. I'm on York Mills

They already ordered a new link. However, I don't think it'll be installed anytime soon so prepare yourselves as we'll be able to experience the infamous slowdowns very soon.

I'm also on the York Mills POI and haven't really been affected by the slowdowns.

But when I do a Teksavvy Speedtest I get:

Here is a Ping test as well.

Speedtest.net tests are multithreaded, meaning it downloads several things at once to measure the speed. That along with speedboost does not accurately reflect congestion, until it gets REALLY bad.

Use these single threaded java tests for best results.

I've noticed a slowdown too. Will post speed tests in a bit.

I've kept my rogers modem and account active in case this happens :S

Just to make sure, I am York Mills?

Rocky, I'm sure you're reading these, can you post an update if you know anything about when the 3gig links for GTA are gonna go live?

The 2gig links looks like they lasted 3 weeks before hitting the wall again, and its probably gonna get bad fast again.

^ You guys really need to pull the plug on new signups earlier than before, especially if there is no ETA.

I'm in York and I can confirm this. Last night was especially unbearable, HUGE slow downs (around 1mb dl). I really thought this was behind us after the upgrade...ffs.

I like how no one from TSI posts, even though they know that they have a lot of angry customers. I guess it's what we get for not going with Bell and Rogers. The saying "You pay for what you get" is true.

Maybe there's some server side-effects from the power-outage in toronto earlier. If the 2gig upgrade lasted only 3 weeks, their growth is ENORMOUS. Perhaps it's a bit earlier to jump to conclusions right now. The last time TSI posted they said there were good head-room on the links.

No...growth isn't enormous . Usage is enormous. If you get the heavy of the heavy users and they have 3x the bandwidth available to them than previous, they just run their connection flat out...which they're entitled to under their agreement, but there is a direct impact as a result of that usage.

Meaning they need 3x the amount of bandwidth available on Cable to serve the same amount of subscribers they did before on DSL.

They probably saw some cannibalization of their service from DSL to Cable, and probably as a result the I believe 19 or 20 links they have from Bell are probably not needed and can probably drop 1 or 2 of them quite easily and still have lots of overhead.

So, here's to hoping, not sure how they're going to resolve this, but...here's to hoping .

I'm not aware of capacity issues in any of the lives POIs right now but will ask.

It's not that growth is enormous, but the 2nd Gig upgrade didn't completely get rid of the slowdowns in the first place. During Peak hours, the speeds wouldn't max out at 1.6MB/s for me. I'd get around 1MB/s at most, and now it's dropped to I think around 300KB/s. I don't quite exactly remember the numbers, but they are getting clogged up again.

I'm on rogers and i've been experincing this as well. Its brutal around 10:30-12pm this week and part of last. something weird is happening on the back end, and it feels like a strange throttling. My multiplayer minecraft is suffering especially!! data just doesn't flow as it should. then after 12 its like nothing happened.

It also affects my SSL transfers to my virtual private server. Starts off normal. Then you can see the traffic bounce up and down until it hits ZERO.

Not sure why no one else from TekSavvy is responding to this thread, but I did send a PM to Rocky about something earlier this week and got a message that he is out dealing with some health issues. He's likely just checking in sporadically right now which is why you're not getting feedback from him. As I said, not sure why the silence from the rest of the group.

hmm.. I'm on the York Mill POI. No problems here. Things have slowed down during peak times but that's to be expected given the fact it's Cable.

But most importantly, I don't have any packet loss.. and that's all that matters to me.

I assume you're on a Docsis 2 modem?

I'm running the SB6120, and I'm getting this:

Not getting the full 15 I should, but the speed's still fine.

Hm... browsing is just fine for me, and I'm using a DPC2100R2. I haven't done any speedtests though and it's probably a bit too late for that now as we're slowly moving off peak.

I dunno about you guys, but I upgraded to Teksavvy and got the 15/1 package because it was cheaper than the 10/.5 package I was on with Rogers, and because of the increased upload speed.

I know that Teksavvy's already placed an order for a 3rd gig-e link back in March. Other than shutting down signups (and its not even that bad yet that it requires it), theres nothing Teksavvy can do, but wait for Rogers to get off their butts and do the upgrade.

the thing to ask is will they stop signups before it gets bad, or when it already is.

I think I remember reading the reason that signups weren't closed earlier was because Rogers kept stringing R0cky on saying that updates would be done "at the end of the week" and then would keep pushing that back.... They kept hoping Rogers would come through with the upgrades, without HAVING to shut down signups..

Rogers knows how to do the updates now, there shouldn't be any major problems this time around in doing upgrades..

Things slowing down during peak times is actually not to be expected , at least not with a company like Teksavvy that has committed itself to providing top notch service even in times
of heavy use.

With Bandwidth costing almost nothing there is no reason
to not have plenty of capacity.

Yeah, right... So why havent the 3rd gig links been hooked up? They've ordered them in March 1st for the GTA POI's from what I recall reading here.

My hunch is that Rogers delays it, just to cause some damage to Teksavvy's image. Nobody can prove it, because only Rogers knows what they're doing on their network.

I bet we'll be in a similar shithole soon, because Rogers will run into some "difficulty" hooking up and load balancing the 3rd gig links.
