Questions about switching from AT&T DSL to Sonic

Mainly, I'm concerned about the downtime. I've read that it's 1-4 days, sometimes only hours. Is there any way to know ahead of time how long it would take? I have family members also using the DSL and I don't want to put them out any longer than necessary.

Are you thinking of switching to Sonic DSL or Fusion service?

Unfortunately it's not possible to predict exact downtime during the switch-over. I can tell you that the vast majority of transitions on AT&T DSL, or to Fusion, happen within an hour. But, there are some that have a couple days of downtime - and it's not possible to determine in advance which you'll end up being. Sorry!

I have to say, it'll probably still be worth it even with the possible downtime. Sonic is a much, much better company to be with than AT&T and they will genuinely support their product to the best of their ability. I highly doubt you'll have any regrets about switching!

When I switched over from SBC Yahoo! (at the time before it was AT&T), I had VERY little downtime. As soon as I could get the router out of PPPoE and into DHCP it was back up. From what I hear from people, this is pretty typical.

+1 here. I had the same experience.
