comments on review of HughesNet → having decent luck so far

i have had my system almost 3 weeks with very little problem...i do agree that the upload speed could be much better...but i do not upload all that much & when i do i do it at night....my download depending on the time of day ranges from about 450 to 2300...uploads 28 to 55...but i have no access to dsl or cable even though i am only about 12 mile from ft worth.....it is far better than dial up in every way....as far as the bugs go....it will only get better not worse in my opinion....i have had directv since 1994 & never had one ounce of trouble with it...it has gotten better with the addition of ultimate tv....but i am curious about the mtu setting is it suppose to be 1500 or 1460 tech support claims they are not to give out that info....i usually have better luck at 1500.also my tcp receive window is set to 474280 is that to high or low or ok...any other tweak ideas would be appreciated...thanks ccr1958

I have had pretty much the same experiences as you have. And feel the same way about the system, compared to dialup. For those of us that have no other choice this is GREAT.
As for your questions. You might want to have a look over here »Satellite Forum FAQ and see if that will answer any for you. It made a big difference in my performance after the tweaks. Also there are many very experienced people in the satellite forum that are very willing and able to help with any of your question.

I feel sorry for your pings though that means like no gaming at all because they will never get below 200ms and usually are around 600-800ms worse then a 56k . If only there was a way to make the pings go lower for satelite it would truly rock.

thanks wolf & C4X i will try those settings as far as the online gaming i have never got into that so i can't comment on that.....but i do think that if direcway gets enough subscribers & can keep up with the demand that the system will be improved....i doubt that they would put a whole bunch of $ into it until the subscribers grow...then i think eventually you will have a choice of what programming package to buy...ie;128..$21.95.....400..$29.95.....1000..&35.95...these are just assumptions on my part....but i think that is the direction it is headed.....if i can ever give you some advice let me know & i shall try....ccr1958

Since I don't play online games. It doesn't matter. But it does let me do the things that are important to me much quicker.
