Re: [Caps] Netflix 1080p (via PS3) Bandwidth?

Maybe it's just because I'm on a Netflix trial and not a full subscriber, but I couldn't even find any good movies in HD. It seems like maybe 1 in 10 are HD, and then mostly it's old movies or crappy movies no one will watch. My point is, I'm not sure I could find enough HD movies on netflix to watch that would get me close to the cap.

I think I read somewhere that Netflix's HD is ~3.8 Mbps. I don't know if that's 720p or 1080p, but assuming it's correct and you use 30 GB/mo normally, you'd be able to watch:

(250-30)*1024*8/3.8/60 = 7094 minutes of HD Netflix content.

In other words, for an average 2 hours per movie, you'd be able to watch:

7904/60/2 = 65.86 movies per month.

Unless you watch 2 movies a day, every day, you will be fine.

*edit* So 2 2-hour movies per week would amount to (again, assuming 3.8 Mbps average bitrate) only about 27 GB.

Netflix streams more than movies.

You can run through a whole HD anime series in a few days, 24 episodes of 22-23 minutes each. Or something like the whole series of Legend of the Seeker, or BBC's Sherlock, Doctor Who, or Glee, or any of the other popular TV series that are 43 minutes or so long times 22-24 episodes.

at 2GB/hour that works out to just over 4 hours of Netflix streaming per day.

Don't be concerned, I have Roku and watch/listen to Music and British TV ( Amazon ) for 1 one hour every night. I don't come close to the caps. Never saw anything on Netflix that interested me.

Dan Rayburn has a good video , "Testing the Apple TV, Roku XDS and Xbox 360, Plus 10 Other Devices", on which I believe he said that Netflix doesn't go above 720.

Hook up with a HDMI cable.

Yeah, I've become aware of the caps too ~ luckily out usage fluctuates between 100-150GB a month, and with light netflix streaming.

The problem we have, we was in the process of consolidating some of services, we also have verizon DSL as a backup and we have two people on that service, one of which would be a very heavy user, he has a PS3, Wii, laptop, DS and PSP + plus he streams movies constantly so pretty much now, he'll have to stay on the DSL lol
