Stained Glass Question......is it worth anything? I only ask cause we're getting our window replaced on Monday. And I told them to save the glass if they could. I had thoughts of maybe selling it on Ebay. But if it ain't worth shit, I'll just have them trash it. Here's the glass:

How old is it?
It's probably worth something, but probably not as much as what you might hope. |

If it can be removed somewhat intact, I'd check with a local antique dealer or curio shop... or a specialty glass shop. There are also construction recyclers who specialize in "oddities." It depends on what's near you. I definitely wouldn't just trash it, though. Stained glass is expensive, and if you have the time to be patient I'm sure you can recover a good buck from it. It won't let you retire to Tahiti, but it ought to buy you a couple cases of a good beer. |

Well I wouldn't even know what to expect. But my first thought was to just trash it. That is until the guy from home depot mentioned how it might be worth something to someone.
I figured if I can a buck off of something I would throw away, why not? |

Oh yeah the age... I guess it's as old as the house which is a good 80 years. Other houses in the area have similar stained glass above their windows but in different patterns. |

My Aunt had a similar window replaced. She saved the stain glass window, frame and all, and had it installed above an interior door. (it doesn't really have a door, just the opening) It looks very nice there. I guess you would call that a transom window. Sort of like this:

Have them save it for you. You don't know if it is 80yrs old as it could have been installed anytime between (unless there are historic photos of house and window/records). I knew someone that did stained glass work and she get ~ $200 for that commissioned (does depend on size, type of glass..) Take measurements, do a lead test, pack it up and sell on ebay, craigslist. |

They had old stain glass in rotted wood frames going for hundreds of $ I do not know what they pay for it. |

If you can get it out in the frame without breaking it up you can , with a little work make a clever sun catcher.
It will have a good story and you will like it in the long run.
Keep it. |

If I were you I would reinstall the stained glass inside of the new windows. That way you would not affect the character of the home. The combination will definitely improve the value of the home more than either one alone. |

Hmm...good idea. Kinda like neonturbo 's idea. But just as for Neon's idea, I think this window is FAR too big to put anywhere else in the house. It's 60" x 18". And our house is a semi detached. So there really isn't much room for something like that. Or wait...maybe the long way?? |

I spend a lot of time out in AZ and I see stuff like this refinished with something like antique turquoise hung lengthwise on interior walls and outdoors.
Either hung with chain or just eye hooks. |
