R2 posted : Hmmm... If I did add IP addresses to a maxed out block list, maybe this is why I am getting ZERO for almost all searches??

My Pirate Edition has the silly stick figures. I am not sure about the AVG AV - after I downloaded one song, I got a message box saying it was not scanned for viruses because Limewire was still downloading virus definitions. All other songs did not give that warning, so perhaps that indicates that is HAS the AVG AV??

Dustyn posted : UPDATE: I have provided in this post below an "official" download location for the very last version of FrostWire which is version 4.21.8 that fully supports P2P Gnutella file sharing along with the added bonus of Torrent support. The latest FrostWire 5.x series has abandoned the Gnutella file sharing protocol as it has now become STRICTLY a Torrent client only.
»dl.frostwire.com/frostwi ··· e/4.21.8
--
Remember that cool hidden "Graffiti Wall" here on BBR? IT should work out the same and help block a hell of a lot of poisoned results.
Its updated frequently I've noticed. Just don't ADD any IP addresses manually after downloading the list as FrostWire's list of entries will be maxed out to full.
On a second note... On a scale of 1 - 10... I've notice WinMX is a 6, 7 for finding music and videos. It seems like this is starting to become a good alternative.
Not only do I connect to the WinMX community network but I also use it to connect to about 15 - 20 OpenNAP servers to increase my search results.
EDIT: LimeWire Pirate Edition... I don't really see how this client fairs any differently as FrostWire is based off of LimeWire. The GUI is different but the underlying code remains pretty much the same. Glad it's working out regardless. I still have 2 distinct versions of Pirate Edition. One with that terrible startup logo with the picture of a bunch of yelling stick like cartoon figures, and one with a professional looking LimeWire splash screen with AVG anti virus removed from within LimeWire; (you do have the option do download it later)
--
Remember that cool hidden "Graffiti Wall" here on BBR?
R2 posted : FYI - out of interest I downloaded LimeWirePirate edition today and installed it.

It appears to run fine, but it has not been able to locate a single song!! So it appears to be gone as well...
______________

Eh... I spoke too soon! I tried it again this afternoon, and I got a bunch of songs. Seems to work as good as the old LimeWire. And certainly better than FrostWire. So far so good.

Dustyn posted : I don't use FrostWire/LimeWire that often these days which is why I'm lagging on the updates. But I still like to post here about them. I can suggest trying out the filters that they offer? Don't know if they work but the concensus is that they block a HELL of a lot of that junk. Funny, after posting this thread, »[Updated] FrostWire 5.0.7 came out a couple hours later.
»forum.frostwire.com/view ··· 1&t=9900

R2 posted : Sorry, but I have to complain. :\

There are STILL too many "LIMEWIRE.COM / free iPad" crap files that are found with FrostWire. It got better for awhile, but it is back. Why can't FrostWire filter all of that crap out?? It seems like that would not be too difficult. I think the number of IP addresses I have blocked because of this must take up half of my hard disk.

This is a major thorn in the side of FrostWire, and it would not be difficult to fix -- if they cared.

Also the number of users / sharers seems to be MUCH lower than with LimeWire. I have a very difficult time finding anything even slightly esoteric. That was one thing GREAT about LimeWire. I could find anything. Anything. For example, "Laid" by "James" is a great song -- but trying to get that on FrostWire is extremely challenging. But that kind of song was always available on LimeWire...

Is there a better service I should be using to find this type of song? Thanks.
