The question is, were you actually recording 2 HD show without realizing it? Was your other TV(s) using an HD channel at the same time? You wouldn't get Optik if your speed couldn't handle 3 HD at the same time. Heh, I need to double check if it's 3 HD at one time or if it's 2 HD at one time. With your situation, 2 HD wouldn't trigger that message. It would come up if there was a 3rd HD channel being either recorded or watched.

"And you can watch 3 live programs in HD and 1 in standard definition at the same time."

O M G... This made me giggle. Does this mean that you have a limit of how many HD channels you can watch in your home ? So if i wanted to watch 3HD channels on 3 separate TVs at my home, Telus would not be able to support this ?

I only have one TV and so yes I was definitively only watching one HD channel. Did not know you could record two channels at the same time, but no I was not.

Also the tech support confirmed I was only on a 1 HD package as he called it, which sounds like he meant a profile.

For now. If you are on the 3HD profile, typically you have a 30Mbit sync. 3 * 5.6 Mbit/s = 16.8 Mbit/s meaning 13.2Mbit/s left for internet traffic.

Rumour has it this is changing very shortly.
