New TekSavvy Blog PostWondering about TekSavvy's Customer service vision? Check out what our VP of Operations has to say about our lofty goals. » wp.me/p1YIXQ-2A |

Uh..oh... Teksavvy is becoming too big. Now we have "new TekSavvy Operations Vision". Soon we will have "off-site" management retreats and company-wide action-oriented strategic-thinking goal-defined implementations along side with enhancing-programs directed to support a top-down approach at lateral thinking that will, in time but soon enough, re-interpret the definitive orientation of Teksavvy's new approach at this challenging business paradigm. In other words, bureaucracy here we come! |

I'm confused, TSI is saying that they're the fourth largest ISP in Canada... After looking up the number of subscribers for the various large ISPs in Canada, that means TekSavvy has between 1.3 and 1.6 million customers... bigger than Telus. That doesn't seem right.
Here was the ranked list that I looked up. It's not necessarily complete, because I just put down some of the big ILEC/cablecos that sprang to mind and then looked up their internet subscriber count (their actual customer counts are much higher if you include TV, wireless, telephone, etc):
Bell: 2.0 million Shaw: 1.9 million Rogers: 1.6 million TekSavvy: 1.3-1.6 million (claimed) Telus: 1.3 million Videotron: 1.2 million Cogeco: 0.6 million EastLink: 0.3 million SaskTel: 0.2 million
EDIT: Having trouble finding MTS numbers. There's a very large Russian ISP called MTS. |

Maybe they want to say "fourth largest INDEPENDENT ISP in Canada... " ... they cannot have more than 140 -150K customers ... in my humble opinion |

Well, how do you define "independent"? |

The term "fourth largest" could mean quite a few different things, but I made the same interpretation as you did. I would think they're talking about their size in terms of number of subs. It stuck in my mind when I first read it, and I'm even more skeptical after seeing your numbers. I would definitely believe it if they were comparing themselves by the number of Gigs downloaded, though |

MindSpring was cross-training tech support people to handle customer service stuff back in 1998. We were allowed to hand out credits for technical issues/outages so the user didn't have to wait on hold for a Customer Service rep after possibly waiting on hold for a tech support rep. And we could take care of other basic stuff. One-stop shopping for the customer.

But I think many of us know who the lowest would be in that regard. (Hint, it's not B#ell). |

Or they could say they are the 3th largest ISP in Chatham. :P |

Right, but TekSavvy didnt' specify that, they just said largest ISP. And among wholesaler ISPs, they're arguably the largest, aren't they? So what are they the fourth largest of then? |

I think they changed it. I don't see it in the blog anymore. |

Yeah, they removed it and there's a "-2" on the end of the URL now. |

hey guys, yeah it was just an oversight.. just trying to get Pierre involved in the dialogue in general. The vision is essentially the same as it's always been.. it's been a long year but I think we're nearly through it all. It's unfortunate about the DHCP issues (that appear to be *mostly* resolved at this point). The call volume in tech has dropped significantly and we're opening less tickets now. There are still some outstanding cases. Just hope it doesn't start up again. We took it all the way to the CRTC and much was done in the background that's not really appropriate to discuss in public. Rest assured I was making calls nearly daily and I was very concerned about it. I still am...
now we have to turn our attention to these stop sell areas and get the capacity added. Unreal. Rogers has really been a bruiser for us these past couple months in particular. |

Maybe they meant fourth largest in overall bandwidth throughput. |

So I was correct. TSI is more on PR campaign than actual improvements. All new geeks want is more download cap and tweeter. TSI is giving them that.
More like TSI moral boosting excercise or TSI supporters. |

Did it really need to take seven paragraphs to say, "we hired more people"? Because once the corporate-speak is removed, that's all that was left. And even then, it had to be re-written to remove a false claim. I left other ISPs to get AWAY from such BS.
TSI is starting to remind me of Mother's Pizza, for those who remember how great it was, and more importantly, what became of them and why. |

Wow...trip down memory lane...I remember Mother's, they were great. I don't know the history though. |

Gang, it's Pierre's first blog... lets cut him some slack I'll be honest here.. most people are afraid of coming here and facing you guys! I can say this though, Pierre is no slouch and however it may come across, there's real action behind it. We've always been known for our support and I think it's just a matter of time before you guys see it too. It's already starting to show... have a good weekend gang.. it's been a heck of a November for me and December is sure to be as exciting! We have these rates to change at the CRTC and we're going to need some support! We've done a ton of number crunching and we'll be sharing our findings soon. |

TSI is starting to remind me of Mother's Pizza, for those who remember how great it was, and more importantly, what became of them and why. Their trying to stick to their roots all the while maintaining a massive load of customers on multiple tiers of services. I'd give them some credit here for trying to talk to the people, even if a mistake is made. My skin crawls when i think of someone at bell trying to sound happy and what is "good for us customers" Pierre is new i'm guessing, big role to be labeled VP and i'm guessing that comes with a pay check that runs side by side with the title. Even if they told us how much toilet paper they use i'd be amazed that at least they try to communicate. Only suggestion i'd have is knock off the PR style talk and just remain professional in a blog, speak freely and you'll win over everyone as what Teksavvy was/is famous for. |
