Viasat seriously dropped the ball with lowering caps even more. While I understand they are not capping usage at this time, it is only a matter of time. Imagine letting users getting use to the new speed and functionality, then a few months later locking down the caps. Suddenly no more HD movies! But by then the Exede subscribers will be locked into a 2 year contract with nowhere to go.

Gen4 can't get here soon enough for me!

Again with the apples and oranges; old HN, new Exede. Would be "prudent" to wait on that comparison until Gen4 hits the street. And the following should be considered neither speculation nor fact, I'm just passing on something that was mentioned after a recent Webinar; Gen4 FAP thresholds of 40GB and 60GB per month, depending upon subscription plan.

A prudent idea, but one might wait another six months after Jupiter is up/running to see how Exede reacts to Jupiter's plans.

Here too. Even though I pay the full $79.99/mo, it's pretty consistently returning ~2000k down and 230k up (off peak) with an average monthly cap of just under 14.5GB. I'm passing on Exede, gonna wait till the Jupiter service is offered later this year.

Yes. There are "Customer Loyalty" discounts available at the end of your 2 year initial contract. You have to commit to a further year. I missed the deadline (which I didn't know about) and they gave me a $10 discount for 6 months anyway, with no commitment. I asked about the whole thing on the community forum, and all they would say is call to see if you're eligible.

I thought about it and decided that the amount and how we use internet, Hughes is adequate for now. I'm not willing to spend another $380 just to get faster downloads, web sites load up just fine. The limits aren't an issue for me as I hardly ever bump up against the FAP unless we download some big updates or one time when I was doing a clean install of Vista, took me 3 days to get all the updates. We get typically 1800kbps in the morning and it drops off to 150 or so in the evenings, and if the download manager works for some things, that's free allowance. There are a few days a year when it's just not usable because of the slow speeds, and always in the evening.

It would be great if Exede upped/relaxed or gave a free period like HN and I'm sure then there would be a stampede to Exede.

Did HN offer you any discounts to stay or did you just cut them off. Which plan did you have? We have the Pro+

Caps maybe a problem but the Hughesnet speed was killing me. Very happy.

My guess would be the download bank on the Ku systems is being held up by limited bandwidth available. They are probably trying to move enough people so that they can handle the extra load.(At least that is my guess)

Just make sure you are aware that BOTH download and upload count towards that quota. Also there is no FAP free period. Also Hughes is launching a new satellite this year as well. Anyway good luck with whatever you decide. I hope you have better luck with Wildblue than my parents have had.
