apparently the Ashburn Virginia servers are having serious issues

also, i did some more research on my test results and

RFC 3168 Explicit Congestion Notification: OFF

seems to be the main culprit for causing those SYN packet errors, i dont know if that is controled server side or if thats my ONT/router side, if that info about our regions server being down/having serious issues is then it would explain it.

also i have my router set to full duplex but the verizon speed test shows
Link set to Half Duplex mode

that would explain why sometimes when i run tests the speed maxes out under 10mb but thats not always constant

jcp posted : not a problem if it does return i've recently learned i have a friend who is fairly high up the verizon chain, next time i will just go directly to her as she seems to have a decent amount of pull in getting things done around here. so by all means if anyone has this issue again let me know and i will see what i can do.

jcp posted : don't get me wrong the service is still better than comcast even with the added latency however i do notice it does affect certain things i do it's noticeable at least to me. i've noticed the same disconnects lately and surprisingly the latency has disappeared evidently the hounding worked or they were performing work in the first place.

jcp posted : i seem to have taken this thread over.. anyway tech called today talked on the phone for a moment and we agreed him driving over here would be useless. called verizon back again to open another ticket spoke to a very nice lady on the phone and was told at first there wasn't much she could do.. after a little convicing she "chatted" with a network tech and set up another ticket for me. i'm supposed to get a call from a network tech within the next two days so i guess we will see where to go from there. my fiancee knows a lady that is evidently higher up in verizon not sure what she can do for me but i may be exploring that option as well.

jcp posted : to follow up with you a bit i've been checking randomly the past couple of days and noticed while downstream my latency is normal as it was before however that same hop still has higher pings. to me this could indicated that the router has ICMP on a low priority than other traffic but i'm not sure and i'm not a verizon network tech.

I can only imagine some sort of work is being done somewhere. The ping monitor on top of confirmation from others clearly indicates there is an issue. Verizon denies it.

JCP, if you wouldn't mind following up if things change or just a verification later this week that your connection is still ok, I would appreciate it. If anyone else has added insight, I would love to hear it. I'll give it a little time myself and report back.

That 5ms to 26ms jump within the same city used to be a 5ms to 10ms jump. The kind of increase there is now is what I would see pinging stuff in New Jersey not across town. The increased latency has been an issue for 4 days (peak or otherwise).

Since Thurs/Fri, that ping time has doubled - never dipping below 25ms and hitting as high as 35ms. Below is part of the tracert that shows the increased latency.

I have spent 3 of the last 15 hours on the phone with Verizon. I was told last evening that they spotted the problem and would work on fixing it. As of this afternoon, it had not been resolved so I called back. I was literally told 'No one anywhere can do anything about it' by a supervisor during an escalated call.

Is anyone in the Richmond area having similar latency issues (download and upload speeds have been fine)? Can anyone else shed some light on the problem? I'm at a loss.
