30 day notice given to Cogeco today, patiently waiting...
Cogeco turns off on April 20th, which should provide plenty of overlap time. Can't wait for this to launch in Cogeco territory. I am really really stoked.
MY GOUGEco is due to shut off at end of April Fools' Day, though I have arranged that I can extend it if call in a few days ahead and pay them prorated for whatever extra time I figure to need.
I'm really interested in this, I still have a 6 month contract with Cogeco as I'm on their Business Starter. I wonder if I go on a massive newsgroup downloading spree going over terabytes if they'll give me the boot without having to pay the $75 cancellation fee.
The whole reason I did not sign a contract for the business plan when I switched is because I knew one way or another TPIA was down the pipe and didn't want to be on the hook for a termination fee when it came.
Hell, when I was talking to the guy when I was switching to business, I specifically told him the whole reason I won't go on contract is because of TPIA. He more or less said something along the lines of 'I don't blame you'
Hmm, it looks like I'm actually 3 months into another term, but I did call Cogeco and they're willing to take me out of the contract at any time without penalty.
After looking at the plans, I thought it would be 30/1 @ $49.99 but I guess that's Rogers and Cogeco is 20/1.5 @ $49.99. Doesn't really seem to practical for me to switch right now as I'm on Cogeco's Business Starter advertised at 10/.640 though I'm getting more like 12/1. Even though the cap is 120GB, I've been doing 150/200/300/500+GB some months since the cap isn't enforced.
I'm paying $62 taxes in with Cogeco and I'd be paying $56 taxes in with START +$5 / month for the modem or +$115 flat. Doesn't seem like it's worth it for me right now since it's only an additional 8mbits give or take. When/if the tier becomes 30/1+ for $49.99, I'll defiantly sign up, but as it stands I'll sit on the side lines for a bit longer.
I never got anything faster than 10Mbit down and 640kbit up on Business Starter.
With Business Starter I pay $65/month - remember, no contract - and with Start I'll be paying $55/month if I rent the modem. A savings of $10/month for service twice as fast.
They DO however have a dept called 'Customer Loyalty', but it does SFA to live up to its implied purpose.
When I spoke of cancelling, the 1st front-line rep to whom I spoke xferred me to them, saying that they might have some ideas, but all they told me was "Ya haven't been with us for a year, so no deals !"
As much as I hate Rogers, stuff like this just reminds me why I've come to hate Cogeco even more, despite only having 2nd hand "fringe" dealings with them.
The Rogers retention offer was actually quite good. If saving money had been the only reason I was switching, I would have taken their offer instead of cancelling.
They tried desperately to retain us when we cancelled our TV months ago. But Internet? Nope.
Whats the rate that Cogeco gets for their TPIA customers from Start? That may be why they're not singing the blues that much when they tried not to retain you for internet vs tv . They're still getting money from you, and don't have to deal with billing/tech support or anything like that..
When we cancelled they didn't even ask why or where we're going. For all they knew I was switching to Bell.
Thing is - and as I have said in the past - with how shitty things are turning on the customer side, it's only reasonable to believe that things are even worse on the internal employee side. For all we know the lack of any effort to keep customers has less to do with Cogeco policy and more to do with staff who realize how crappy things are turning and have no drive to entice customers to stay when they would probably do the same.
