I've read all your message and I am more confused than I was before. I simply don't know. But here is what I did.

Every room I try to add as many cat5e cables as i can. And run them all to basement. Few rooms needed actually phone line so I just crimped cat5e for my needs. I figured that phones will become obsolete eventually in advent of VoIP.
