The last few days, I'm having the same issue on my Samsung HD cable box. After 20 to 30 minutes of I guess "remote control inactivity", I get a "screen saver" with iO logo and the message "press any key to continue". There is no option to disable this.

I got the ipod ouch for signing up for OOL and just have to find out how long I need to keep service until it's mine without any payback or penalty. I haven't even opened it yet just in case.

Whatever VZ DVR box I had before was way more than sufficient. The other thing CV changed now is that almost all the main channels are in HD only with the Samsung boxes (no more going to the higher channels for HD). The shows wipe out the storage they give you pretty quickly. I really could care less about HD and it was nice not having to record everything in HD.

It's just disappointing that a little over 2 years later their service seems to be so much worse than it was before. I thought I was doing good saving almost $60 a month but the trade off is awful.

This is what the tech told me that came back here to check everything the week after I had the install done. He said the lines are just being saturated and it might get worse as more people in the neighborhood signed on. I am strongly considering going back to Fios since this does not seem like it's going to get better anytime soon. I just have to check with Verizon now and see that they are still using the old hard drive box network DVR's like I had before and haven't switched to some crap like this DVR Plus that CV is using. I would hate to go through the trouble of switching back to find out they did something similar and are just as bad now.

FiOS is still using the HDD boxes, though I think they might have bigger HDDs now.

happy4ya, I would suggest getting a regular DVR from CV (with a hard drive). If you need a whole house DVR, Fios will probably give you one for life for free.

I asked them about swapping these garbage Samsung boxes for the older SA hard drive DVR boxes I had before and said I was considering switching back to Fios because of them and they said sorry but there was nothing they could do because CV is phasing those out for the Samsung's and DVR Plus.

When I switched to Fios over 2 years ago it was based on price and I really had no complaints about CV. There was not much difference between the 2 other than a few channels one had that the other didn't. I switched back because FIOS pricing went up and when I switched my bill dropped almost $60 a month. Fios offered me some BS deal and a $5 monthly credit to stay with them with no contract or a $25 monthly credit for a 2 year deal.

2 years later and it seems like CV got worse rather than better. I really don't want to sign another 2 year deal but the pricing would be closer to CV's and the trade off might be worth it. I'm just wondering what equipment I will get from Verizon now 2 years later and if it will work as good as the stuff I got when I first went to them.

These have been slow as hell since we got them. Every thing I press there is a delay (even changing channels). The DVR plus Channel Guide and anything interactive that pulls stuff from CV servers is painfully slow. Watching DVR or on demand stuff, when you press FF or RW on the remote there is a good 3 -6 second delay until the box responds so I am constantly having to stop and rewind again because it's almost impossible to stop FF'ing right when the show starts again and I always end up going too far.

I called CV a few days after getting set up and they sent a tech back to check everything and they said all was OK. I'm wondering if I should keep making them come back until they do something or get sick of me and tell me to cancel and go back to Fios.

it'll probably just take a year or 2 to fix the problem, they have many problems they need to fix and it depends on priorities, so when they get around to you, no one knows, in the mean time, you could go back to Fios, and wait until you get an answer to whether it's fixed, and if it is, then you could switch back to Cablevision. I'm sorry, but, some things are they way they are, and it won't change!. possibly with new leadership, but don't count on it!. you could get a high level job at Cablevision, and never have to wait long for a fix, though!.

happy4ya posted : I had OOL installed about 3 months ago. They gave us these crappy Samsung boxes that seem to run 10x slower than the SA boxes we had a few years ago. Anyway, out of nowhere today the one in my living room started showing an IO logo moving around the screen like a screen saver and says press any key to continue:

I hit enter on the remote and it goes back to normal for a while (maybe 10-15 minutes) and then goes back to screen saver. Has anyone seen this with these boxes and if so does it sound like the box is crapping out or did CV change something?
