Reeled back inSlowly but surely I'm being drawn back in to WOW. Long time lurker of this this forum(it really is awesomely untouched by trolls), victim of several of random dungeon finder horror stories, I still want to come back and kill some time with WOW. I'm qualified for the scroll of rez and I'm wondering what to choose as my Auto 80 toon. As an altoholic, I've experienced all fighting types. I'm leaning more towards heals or DPS spec because I don't want to contribute to complete wipes as a newbie tank until I have more experience. My main was a pally dps/heals and switched over to my fire mage when I got bored. Are these still comparable peeps in this world? I'll admit I'm not comfortable with the feral kitty or rogue combo fighting style, so I'd like to rule those out. Knowing that each boss fight is different, is there a preference in the dps or heals you guys prefer over others out there? I'm honestly clueless here in toon choosin here and any questions or inputs would definitely help, thank you in advance. |

First off, certainly send me a PM if you'd like that scroll. =P
Honestly, paladins have always been in a pretty good spot when it comes to most of their specs. Protection is probably THE easiest tanking class, Holy is a solid healing class, and as of the MoP Beta, Retribution is pretty beastly.
I've always liked shaman as well; I've always liked healing and DPS'ing as a shaman. But only if you're horde. The Alliance shaman are just...meh. Space-goat? No thank you. |

I'll also Rez you if you need.
What class have you not tried, that can help us give advice on what to try next. It's a good time to come back given the reset that will happen with MoP launch. |

My dwarf shaman is quite awesome, thank you very much. Then again, I can pretty much just say "dwarf", and the word "awesome" should instantly leap to mind in a word-association kind of way. |

Hm, I do kinda want to transition into tanking, but I want to learn dungeons and boss fights first. Reason being, I don't wanna be another Lame Duck story. BTW, what happened to those posts? I enjoyed reading and learning from them! Hunter, Shaman, rogue and druids are the only ones I haven't leveled all the way yet. I've never gotten used to or don't feel comfortable with their play style for some reason. I still jump on them to see if I'll warm up to them in later levels, and that is why I ask which toon wouldn't be so bad in general. Here is my analysis: Hunter- get to have a Pet, the change from Mana to Focus veered me away. Do any of you guys prefer Mana over Focus, or is this way better? shaman- can dps/heal, don't really know much about them. rogue- not so interested in the combo tracking, I understand it can be fun but its just not for me. druid- not so different from a paladin's versatility, the heals are HOTs as I recall but the dps playstyle is not for me. If you see any pro/cons I haven't addressed that you know is a deal breaker please let me know. agh, I can't get a scroll of rez from all of you, how do I choose? |

As for the scroll of rez, chose by the date we joined the forum Or just roll a dice. As for the toons you haven't played, I can only speak towards hunters and druids because I haven't played shaman or rogue enough to comment. As for hunter, I was a hunter main since Vanilla launch but dropped it as my main once they made the change from mana to focus. I hated that change. However, I recently decided to give one of my hunters another go and read up on the most recent hunter advice (i recommend » www.icy-veins.com/classes-wow ) and now I've managed to get used to focus and don't really miss mana any more. One thing I like about hunters is that throughout the history of WoW, hunters have always had at least one spec which if played competently could be tops on the damage meters. They've never been completely broken. I also like that blizzard has added so many unique pets to try and hunt down and tame. You can really customize your hunter with unique pets and transmog options. Hunters are great farming toons, and imho the best questing / leveling class. They don't go oom, and you don't feel lonely because you always have your pet with you. There is this unique feeling you get with a hunter: when you and your pet manage to survive and accidental pull too many adds or manage to solo an elite mob meant for five, you don't just feel good that you managed to survive it, you want to reach out and pat your pet for a job well done. The attachment you get to your hunter and her/his pets is imho unique. I doubt a hunter will ever be my main again (I enjoy tanking and healing too much), but if I decided to go pure dps, I would strongly consider it. I can't imagine not having a hunter in my alt collection. Druids are another class I've played since launch. I really enjoy the druid class and the ability to play so many roles with only one class. They used to be my preferred class for healing, but something about the current healing rotation has turned me off. On the other hand, I think the current feral kitty dps is fun to play. Tanking as a druid has always had a slightly boring feeling to me as far as the rotation goes, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy it. There is something cool and fun imho about playing a bear and protecting your group with growls and swipes. Druids are also great collectors (mining and herbing). Flight form makes these tasks seem less like a chore because you can instantly switch instead of having to wait for the mount to cast. You can be a bear, an owl, a cat, a tree, a crow, a chettah and a seal. What's not to like! |

DK is easy:
step 1: get gear from AH/ 378 HoT dungeons step 2: queue for LFR step 3: OD on any readily available tricyclic antidepressant and have a seizure while your face is on the keboard and you will do at least 20k dps. |

My main is a hunter, so I'm biased... but I have to echo what saillaw said. They are an EXCELLENT solo questing class; if you use a tenacity pet, you have a built-in tank... combine that with spammable Mend Pet and you have the holy trinity (DPS/tank/heals) all in one. They are very well suited for raids/dungeons, not only bringing good DPS but some nice overall cc/utility. The main drawback is that they are absolutely GIMPED in PvP at the moment. That may change in MoP with removal of minimum range and new talent trees, but time will tell. ... Basically, if your focus is on PvE and questing, a hunter is an excellent choice. |
