Security is no more an issue than for anything else you do on a public connection.

Quality? In the few places I've tried, not enough upload bandwidth and very choppy conversations.

It'll work, but I wouldn't rely on it. I'd love to get rid of my cell phone and just use VoIP over wireless when I'm out, but I suspect it'll be years before that's feasible.
