Re: [Internet] Just ordered 15/10 service -- Install Question

You say the room has a line direct from the NID? does it go outside or inside and then to the room?

The line runs from the jack in the wall to the basement to the box demarc in the house. Perhaps I used the wrong term with the NID

Do they install any special line filter etc? Or is it just plug the modem into the jack and set up the service? I want to make it as easy as possible and if ghey need to run new wire or whatever to the room I will move the ceiling tiles in the basement beforehand.

A POTS splitter is installed, usually at the demarc point but it could be in your room. One output leg goes to the modem/router and the other the the telephone lines.

There are usually three twisted pairs in the telephone wire, so there are lots of options available for the location of the splitter.

not quite true, the point of a pots splitter is to eliminate any taps inside the home and to provide a direct line to the modem so a pots splitter in the bedroom would not be ok, also most older homes there are 2 pairs in a line

I would suggest to clear the point where the line comes in and clear the area around the modem jack

Thanks for the information. I think it should be a fairly easy install by what you guys are telling me. Everything is accessible and easy to work on. We will see what actually happens when he/she comes tomorrow evening.

Well......
Bell messed up again. It seems that despite 2 agents telling me that my install was scheduled for tonight, it was cancelled yesterday. I didn't find out about it until this evening when it occurred to me that I had never received a confirmation email. I fired up the chat option on Bell's site. That is when I found out that it had been 'dropped' yesterday. Apparently due to them being unable to confirm the install with an installer. I get the reason but what irks me is that I never received a phone call or message from Bell that the install needed to be rescheduled and then a number to call to do so. I guess they were just going to let me sit home and wait all evening.
I spoke with Rain in the Internet office (this time by phone) she placed the order again and is going to contact me tomorrow with a time in the next 5 business days. Hopefully this time it will be installed.
Like I said it isn't the installer being unavailable or even the installation being dropped that bothers me. It is the fact that Bell lacked the common decency to inform me that it had been dropped.

maybe the installer is a third party contractor, and bell has no control over them showing up or not?
