[Troubles] We're throwing in the towel now! /TheEnd
Finally got word back on the status of this "upgrade" with a unexpected curve-ball. "We acknowledge that you, and other customers in your area, are experiencing internet issues due to the tremendous growth in internet usage in the past few years. While Windstream does strive to upgrade its network to address market conditions, unfortunately, some of our customers, like yourself, are served by some of our remote switches that are currently not approved for upgrades or improvements in 2013. Windstream will do what it can to obtain the funding and make improvements in 2014."
Someone could get rich making punching bags with the Windstream logo on it or Jeff Gardner's face. I am flat out ready to start cracking skulls. Three years of the famous WS rigmarole and now we are abandoning ship. Why did we spend a** loads of money for nothing? Supposed to have this fixed in January and now we are not fixing it. Why couldn't have someone have told me this, I don't know, a month ago or maybe five months ago when they gave me the January deadline?
All WS wants is free government handouts to help their investor friends on Wall Street. WS just keeps putting their hands in the cookie jar cause they think that all the cookies are theirs. Its not... and I hope they get their hands smacked so hard that it brings tears to their eyes. Better yet, I hope they get smacked so hard that it snaps their wrist. This company disgusts me.
I got the exact same message in the direct forum today. I am absolutely livid. They basically said, "we know we're not delivering what you're paying for, but too bad." There has to be SOMETHING that can be done about this. Has anyone contacted the Federal Trade Commission? This seriously has me very upset. My area is not even THAT rural. There are 32-33 homes per mile according to the last time Charter did a survey. They can easily service 100+ people on a single DSLAM. Why can't they buy a network card to hook up the fiber that is already running to the DSLAM?
Any one else with a Dec, Jan or Feb repair date get told the same thing? Almost like they are just trying to shut a few of us up. I'm not going to pushed around by a 2-bit company. It won't happen.
I would say it's time to sue. What else have they left people? Public Service in most states I know doesn't regulate ISPs and those like Windstream know it. They are robbing everything they can just like all the other corporations are doing now.
Windstream, is it too much to ask for DSL that actually performs after three years of "upgrades"? All these other ISPs seem to be pushing faster tiers and Windstream can't even make a 3Mbps connection (that we've had for over six years, can't remember when exactly) even remotely work near 1Mbps on a good day. Really sad considering we live in 2013 and TWC just 10 miles north offer 50/5 and it works like a charm. Hughesnet Gen4 can offer 15/2. Heck even VZW 4g is somewhere in the 7-12Mbps range just 15 miles south (I can prove it). Windstream can only provide 3Mbps here, and still to this day it underperforms and we're synced to roughly 3.5Mbps. I would be the happiest man alive if Windstream could make their service perform like it should. We'd all love to be able to get these speeds other ISPs offer but come on Windstream, make this work. I know we're comparing different mediums (its like comparing apples to oranges or to killer whales) but fix your mess or get lost.
This company has no customers interest in mind. The fact that their only reply in this thread is about Verizon buying them should tell you all you need to know. Shitty business is the name of their game, and when you're the area's only ISP option, you can be shitty. My area has had the upgraded equipment sitting and waiting for a year now. Do I think my service will improve? Hell no. The only way my area is going to improve is some other tech that is cheap to deploy comes out and another company decides to invest in this area. Sorry Windstream, it's the truth, and no kind of sugar coating or word manipulation you can come up with will change that. Your company knows it's screwing people, and as long as you can get away with it, you will continue to.
I can not foresee Verizon buying Windstream out. Especially considering I believe they sold the majority of their wireline to Frontier.
Windstream Support
Trust me with Wind-streams attitude not upgrading their network anymore and dont tell me they're not because this would be a lie on your part, and the lobbyist money wind stream is dishing out on that internet bill.Instead of dishing all them Million's out to the Georgia lawmakers how about upgrading the network
You better watch there's not a hostile takeover bid on windstream.
Windstream ceases network upgrades due to a lack of competition,
I see this all the time on political blogs. It's the new corporate America. Nathan there are about maybe 5% of the population that knows what is going on. The rest they keep busy with wedge issues and moral values. Mean while, Windstream is far from the only one doing this. Is there hope we get better internet? Doubtful, as there isn't any incentive anymore with the mega mergers to provide anything but the least possible. Windstream is in a great cat bird seat with no competition over a vast amount of their network. Basically the other day they told everyone they know they are doing it and try and stop us. But considering in my life, the rest of America in 30 some years hasn't woken up, don't count on anything changing for decades.
