awebber posted : Me too. Though to me that's an argument for putting more info on the website, so that some of the basic questions are answered there rather than the agent having to go and check because he hasn't done a LD sale in a month.

=aw
--
Webber's occasional bargain blog: www.wwwebber.com

awebber posted : Okay thanks, I didn't see a point in calling Bell unless it was going to speed up the process (or the possibility of 2.9c/min from Bell right away, sorry TSI but that would be worth it).

Otherwise thanks for the info. I think TSI's website needs more details and the agents should know it all too. :)

=aw
--
Webber's occasional bargain blog: www.wwwebber.com

It works for everybody, the person on the phone must not have known.

3. All they need is your phone number; I didn't give them anything other than my phone number and Bell processed it okay.
LD: Questions re: order

awebber posted : Hi, I just ordered LD to be put on a Bell line. The agent was very helpful but I have a couple of things I'd like to clarify as we're hoping to get this done and off Bell as quickly as possible.

1. He recommended telling Bell we were switching. I could imagine this would be good (a) in case Bell want to price-match, and (b) so Bell doesn't try to hold it up [though the days of widespread slamming (?) seem to be behind us]. Yak says this about informing Bell:

quote:
Do I need to notify my current carrier that I'm switching to Yak?
No, when you sign up for Yak Long Distance, we notify your local carrier of the request and they make the switch, automatically cancelling services with your previous long distance provider.

2. He wasn't aware of the 700# for checking your LD carrier. Is that something specific to Yak or is it across the board? I assumed the latter. Yak says this:

quote:
What is 1-700-555-4141?
1-700-555-4141 is a toll-free number maintained by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (or CRTC). When you call 1-700-555-4141 a recorded message informs you of the current long distance carrier for the line called from.

I note TekSavvy didn't ask for Bell account number, balance, or anything else, just the name and phone number, which makes me a little nervous Bell will reject the request (based on porting numbers to voip.ms where the latter wanted specific info that would prove to Bell/Rogers I had access to the existing account).

If there are any other gotchas, or if TSI needs more specific info on the order, I'm happy to switch to the Direct forum. TSI's is almost non-existent when it comes to their LD offering.

Thanks!
=aw
--
Webber's occasional bargain blog: www.wwwebber.com
