DarkScythe posted : Thanks, Speedtest.net results look good; Getting 59mbps down and 8mbps up.

The installer was pretty nice, even though he admitted he doesn't do the full/new install very often, but he claimed he didn't want to just half-ass it and add a splitter to the existing line, and installed a brand new drop for me. Ran into a funny problem where the signal was too strong and causing his test to fail, so he had to add a splitter on my end anyway to lower it.

Only main problem now is that we underestimated the thickness of our wall, and he needs to swing by again later with a bigger drill to finish drilling the hole through. For now, he's temporarily installed it somewhat awkwardly by swinging the cable right out the window.

As far as the modem goes, he gave me an Arris TM822 - no idea if this is good or not.
Stats look like 8 channels downstream and one channel up.
Downstream channels are operating at between 6.4 to 7.8 dBmV with an SNR of 39.4 dB. Upstream power is 46.75 dBmV, which looks to be all within specifications from what I can dig up from the FAQ.

jaa posted : Just run a speed test at speedtest.net - you should be getting at least the advertised speeds when wired.

DarkScythe posted : Hey there,

A couple of things came up since my last post which delayed plans for a bit, but I've finally decided to ditch DSL and get OOL installed, if only as a stopgap until FiOS rolls around. That said, with my luck, we'll be the very last block in Brooklyn to get wired up, if at all.

Anyway, I'm getting OOL Boost Plus installed tomorrow, and as a benchmark, I was going to try and get some baseline numbers from the modem about my connection.

I'm not too familiar with the cable technology, but at least with DSL, the stats on my modem at the time indicated I could switch to Fastpath from Interleaved. Is there anything like this that I need to look out for with OOL?

Are there any other pertinent stats that I should look out for that I could ask the installer about before he leaves?

Thanks.
