Verizon FiOS → [Northeast] Drastic spam increase?

Has anybody else seen an increase in spam?

For the last four or five days I have received 10-15 e-mails per day selling the most bizarre and unneeded stuff.

Am I just unlucky or has a spam blocker somewhere stopped working?

I've been getting about ten a day for the last couple of months. Before that practically nothing. But it's only on one of the two email addresses we have with Verizon. The other one gets none.

Aside from the obvious, that they are unwanted spam, is there any common aspect to the addresses? Many months ago I was getting a ton of crap once or twice a week with return addresses in the .info domain. I have no other desired correspondents in the .info domain, so I created a rule on the main VZ webmail configuration page to simply delete at the server anything with a .info domain. All gone now.
