[FireFox] Downloads in FF

For some reason, my downloads don't run anymore (these are just magnet links) they go to an arrow and need to click on it to get utorrent running. How do I fix this so it doesn't require an extra click from me?

Unfortunately starting in Mozilla 20 they implemented a new download manager which most people don't like (atleast on dslreports).

Go to about:config, paste 'browser.download.useToolkitUI' and put it to false. It'll put it back to the download manager they had before.

What version of Firefox?

Not sure what you mean by goes to an arrow. I have the latest Firefox and clicking a magnet link sends it directly to torrent program. No arrow involved.

I have Fx 20.0.2 and there is an arrow in both the add-on bar at the bottom and the menu bar at the top.

Well that arrow on the Navigation bar (if that is what you mean by menu bar) certainly sounds like the new download button. I don't have one, never had one on the Add-on bar. A magnet link should open your torrent client.

In Preferences, under Applications do you have a magnet Content type listed? It should point to utorrent

If you are referring to about:config; I have never been there before so it took me a while to figure how to get there but could not find any magnet content.

Yeah, sorry about that. I forgot it's called Options in Windows.

That odd that there is no magnet in Applications, you did indicate it worked before.

Well not big deal, we can try this.

1. about:config
2. right click on any item in the list.
3. select New > Boolean
4. In the dialog box enter "network.protocol-handler.expose.magnet" without the quotes and pressĀ OK
5. Select false, then OK

Now click on a magnet link, Firefox should now prompt you for the application to use for magnet links. Select your torrent client, utorrent.

It's like that now, and it's not starting utorrent. It seems to be fine with everything else but magnet links, I need to go to the downloaded section and launch it manually, didn't need to do that before.

Did yo try what I posted? Here is the procedure with pictures

Enter about:config in the Awesome Bar. The enter handler.expose in Search.

Right click on a Preference Name, I selected the first, and select New > Boolean.

Enter network.protocol-handler.expose.magnet

Select false for Boolean value

This will be the result

Now when you click on a magnet link, you will be prompted to select the application. If you want this to happen every time then check "Remember my choice for magnet links"

The next time you click a magnet link your should not be prompted.

Here's what it's doing, I figured it out, it's saving the file to my default folder and not launching it. I have everything set to run but it's not doing it. Why did firefox have this little download arrow in the first place?

How do I get it to launch the player automatically like it used to do or is that a no go?
