[Serious] New glasses-PROGRESSIVE lens

I haven't worn my old glasses for years, finally got around to getting the new prescription, and glasses.
My new glasses are progressive, and I'm not sure I can get used to this.
Everything (text, computer) must be exactly centered or it's blurry.
Moving my head to quickly feels like I'm on a rollercoaster.
I'm supposed to wear them a lot to get used to them, but damn.
I must admit that reading is easier, no more arm stretching.

Re: [Serious] New glasses-transitional lens

You are either not used to prescription glasses at all, or got a wrong prescription.

I've had transition glasses for 3 years (switched them this year to clip ons since I didn't want a second pair and I like photography too much) and I never had any trouble anything being blurry.

The quick movement part is normal though, almost everyone gets it for a day or two with new glasses.

I'm new to progressive, and as I have three different 'depths' (close for reading, 4-6' for computer, then distance), there is a narrow field of vision for the up close part. The glasses not blurry when my eyes are properly centered in the lenses.
My old prescription (17 yrs ago) were strictly for my astigmatism, and was a weak prescription.
Older now, and have middle age disease where close things are blurry.

Trifocals...

I have transitions, have for years, that's not the problem, it's getting used to the trifocals.

I just wear Bi-focal glasses, although my wife wears Tri-focal contacts and likes them has for a few years.

Not sure i am ready to try transitions yet.

I swear by them, I have no idea why people would carry 2 pairs of glasses, or those butt ugly clipons, Either way it's inconvient transitions are fantastic, and getting better ever single time i get a new pair of lenses.

OOH they now work in the car...

Hey now, I got clipons after using transition glasses and they're not ugly at all. There are plenty of really good looking clipons.

And while the transition glasses work way better nowadays, I can't use them as I like photography too much, and taking a proper picture is practically impossible with shades on. :\

I just switched from Transitions after going through three pairs. I was happy with them, but now that i'm driving more, I got annoyed enough with not having them change that I switched to a separate pair of prescription sunglasses I got online for less than $100.

Apparently the new Transitions lenses work in the car, but it wasn't worth the cost premium.

For sunglasses I won't use progressive, I'll get the simple prescription for my astigmatism only.

Ah - I see the problem here.

You're referring to Trifocal lenses as Transitions - which is not the correct term for them.

Transitions lenses are photocromatic - they change from light to dark when exposed to UV rays. These aren't what you have.

I don't know if that's still the case but I've been advised that my prescription is of a high enough index that Transitions lenses would not work in my case (I was never explained why this was so, I suspect it would be a visual distortion issue at the high index that I need)

Considering that my last pair of glasses were $450 with the clip ons, I would have thought they would gladly suggest the Transition Lenses to pad their profit margin even more

Re: [Serious] New glasses-PROGRESSIVE lens

I have transitional / progressive lenses. They're great for reading books, or driving; straight ahead is low magnification, but looking down at the dashboard there is greater magnification, and it's easier to read.

For computer screens they suck, because I would have to bend my neck back to get the proper magnification. I have used them outdoors with a laptop computer with the screen bent far back without cramping my neck.

For reading desktop computer screens you should have a single magnification lens equivalent to the bottom half magnification of your progressives.. i.e you need two pairs of glasses.
