Windows Live MailI'm having problems with Windows Live mail and FIOS. It was working up until last week. I had just gotten Verizon FIOS hooked up in my apartment building a few weeks ago and went and setup Windows live Mail and it was working up until last week. According to the forums Windows Live Mail was unsupported as of 2010.Why was it working for me? The web mail client is working fine but it times out after 10 mins.Is this normal? Can I set it to not time out? I usually leave the Web Mail client open like I would an e-mail client like Outlook Express. Is it wrong to leave the Web Mail client open? I'd like to use Windows Live e-mail but have been searching the forums for settings and getting no where. People offer different port settings and POP and SMTP settings but to no avail nothing works. Anyone using Windows Live with FIOS and have it working? |

I havent used Live Mail in a afew months but I just checked one of my Verizon accounts and it worked fine. Here is the server configuration.
Pop3: incoming.verizon.net smtp: smtp.verizon.net
Incoming mailserver use your username and password. Logon using cleartext authentication
Outgoing Mailserver requires authentication using same settings as incoming server.
Under advanced settings:
Smtp port 465 requires SSL Pop3 port 995 requires SSL
Hope that helps... |

If that doesn't help then I would create a sub account at myverizon and see if you can pull email from that account to verify the Live Mail server config is correct. |

Yes its just myname5687 without the @verizon.net and then a password. It was working fine before and I didn't get the user name/password box that pops up asking to verify or put in user name and password. I haven't changed my password but it says the password is wrong. |

It doesn't seem to be happening to everyone but there are quiet a few on the Verizon forum on the Verizon web site that have had their e-mail stop working. |

Not sure whether this is your issue, but Microsoft has discontinued Hotmail, Live, etc, in favor of Outlook mail. You should have received emails telling you to convert. If you can still access the emails that tell you how to convert, use them to convert. If you didn't convert, you may need to contact Microsoft. |

And do you have to pay for Outlook mail?I was looking around for Outlook 2007 or 2013 and it wasn't free. |

What free e-mail program would anyone suggest that works with Windows 7 64 bit? I was using Windows XP for so long and was using Outlook Express and I was use to it.I knew the ins and outs of it and I could pretty much set it up the way I wanted. |

check this out,
Dear Valued Verizon Customer,
To further improve security and your online experience, Verizon has modified the way Verizon.net email is handled when sent or received through an email application (such as Outlook Express®, MS Outlook, Windows Live Mail or via hand-held devices). In order to take advantage of these improvements, we are requiring customers to modify the server settings (also known as POP settings) for their email applications on every device used to access Verizon.net email. Please update your POP email applications inbound and outbound server settings as soon as possible to match the new settings below: Server Current Setting New Setting SSL Enabled Port
POP3 Server incoming.verizon.net pop.verizon.net YES 995
SMTP Server outgoing.verizon.net smtp.verizon.net YES 465
Depending on your email application, you may need to disable/turn off Secure Password Authentication and, if applicable, make sure your Authentication method is set to Password or Normal password. In addition, you may need to reboot/restart your device for these new settings to take effect and for your email to continue working properly.
Note There are no setting changes when accessing Verizon.net email via MyVerizon/webmail.
If you need assistance in updating your settings, visit verizon.com/emailsettings for further information and step-by-step instructions. You can also visit our online forum at forums.verizon.com for additional information, if available.
Thank you for being a valued Verizon customer. Please act now to make sure your email account has the proper settings.
Sincerely,
Your Verizon Team |

Pepsiman I got that e-mail and changed the server settings and it didn't work at the time. Then I went back to the old settings in other words ,incoming.verizon.net,and outgoing.verizon.net and it was working again. Not sure of the other settings, turning off Secure Password Authentification or port settings. I've looked thru the Verizon forums and it gets confusing as to ports used and settings.Outgoing=port 465 ,incoming port 995. I've seen several different port settings. Why was it working last week? And now its not. What has changed on their side.I haven't messed with it till it stopped working last week. I have no trouble with the Verizon Web mail client.Just that it times out after being left open after 10 mins or so.Is that normal? |

Note that some people had trouble during one weekend that some of the new servers were down. But in general its been more reliable then the old servers. common mistakes also causing problems 1. typos 2. not rebooting some devices (apple devices definitely need to be restarted) 3. leaving on APOP (authenticated password), must now be a clear password (although password is passed over a secure SSL connection) 4. not turning on SSL And mixing of servers is also a problem. i.e incoming.verizon.net and smtp.verizon.net WILL cause problems. One user in this thread is mixing them. Either use pop.verizon.net and smtp.verizon.net. Or if you insist on using the old servers for now use incoming.verizon.net and outgoing.verizon.net |

Microsoft may have migrated from Windows Live Mail to Outlook, but Windows Live Mail still works fine. Verify all settings again. Also, Windows Live mail shares settings with Internet Explorer, so verify those settings as well. |

I have been trying just about everything that it gets just to jumbled up and on the Verizon forums there seems to be no set setup. One person suggests one setup another person suggests something different and I try them and they don't work. And if you do a search on Verizon forums about setting up Windows Live one of the first threads is about how Verizon stopped supporting Windows Live in 2010.Can you get it to work?I had it working and other people have it working ,so it must be a setup problem and I'm missing something somewhere. I got to go over everything. |

Works fine for me also. When I first set up the new settings I had a problem in that I reversed the incoming and outgoing port numbers. After I corrected this error, everything worked fine.

Since you said you can log into the webpage. Log into the verizon webpage and reset your password, and then go back to windows live mail, and use the new password, and make sure you are using the new webmail settings. pop.verizon.net ssl 995, and smtp.verizon.net ssl 465. |

These are the errors I'm getting and yes I reset the password. I'm thinking of deleting the e-mail account and then redoing it.
Unable to send or receive messages for the Verizon(fishead7648) account. An incorrect password was entered. The next time you send or receive messages, you'll be asked to enter your user name and password for this account.
Server Error: 0x800CCC90 Server Response: -ERR [AUTH] Authentication failed Server: 'pop.verizon.net' Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC92 Protocol: POP3 Port: 995 Secure(SSL): Yes
That's the incoming server.Wonder if I get that working I'll then have errors on outgoing server. |

And Outlook.com you have to pay for? I will try deleting the account and starting from scratch. Like I said it was working the first week I set it up and that was with incoming.verizon.net,and outgoing.verizon.net and different ports then the ones suggested. I tried the pop.verizon.net,and smtp.verizon.net and the ports suggested and that's when everything went south. I tried putting it back to the old servers and ports. Didn't work. |

Try the different authentication options. I've got "encrypted password" set in my client (thunderbird) on the incoming / outgoing servers.
Looks like Bluepoint has no encryption on his using the pop / smtp servers.
By the way, Thunderbird is great and free and I recommend it over Windows Live Mail
If you're sure your U/P are right, there's still something making Live Mail send them in a way the server thinks is wrong. Maybe the encryption is the key. |
