[NE] Install Linksys WRT54G2 Router

My friend has Cox HSI (no phone or tv). He currently has his computer directly connected to a Motorola SB5120. He has an old Linksys WRT54G2 wireless router, which he would like to use as a wired router with the wireless turned off.

Must I clone his computer's MAC address in the WRT45G2? Are there any cautions any of you might suggest or other setting changes required in the WRT45G2 (other than turning off the wireless)? Thanks.

no need to clone the mac, just make sure you firwall settings and ports you need open are set is all since the wireless will be off.

I've seen some posts that say to disconnect the modem for five hours before plugging in the router. Is that necessary?

A simple reset will clear its MAC table.
