Verizon coming here just means a 4th carrier like the big 3, no thanks.

Pfft, no it doesn't.

Yes, it does.

If you have a better augment other than Verizon being expensive in the US to counter my comments about their inability to use anything other than price alone to gain market share in Canada, you are more than welcome to present it to validate your claim. I will listen.

Until then, like I said - pfft, no it doesn't.

If they do takeover, they'll probably continue offering low rates in the beginning, but they'll likely increase the prices as they continue to develop the network, and use tactics that they use in the US to force people off good plans.

For example, Verizon no longer offers subsidies for customers who have unlimited data plans in the US. I can see Verizon offering low prices after the acquisition, and then as the network develops I can see them using a similar tactic. Force them onto more expensive in market options if the customer wants a subsidy.

Verizon's mantra has always been to offer a premium product and charge a premium price for it. They want to have a better product then the competition and be able to charge more then the competition.

The problem is that, right now, they will not offer a premium product and therefore will be unable to charge a premium price for it. They might be able to in 10 years after they've deployed a nation-wide AWS and 700MHz next-gen LTE network and had sufficient time for the market "accept" the fact that they are just as premium as anyone else, but that day is certainly not today and not anytime tomorrow either.

As it stands now, the only way they will ever establish any sort of significant market share in Canada is price price price and, as a niche for a small part of the market, cheap and/or free US roaming.

The problem with "price price price" is you get what you pay for. Wind is starting to break my back. It didn't work in Elora, it didn't work by the Scarborough Bluffs, it doesn't work in Burlington.

Then we can talk about how slow the data is. (and I don't care about the roaming charges).

It might be 30 bucks a month, but if this keeps up i'll be forced to go back to Robellus I was so tempted today when I was in Costco to talk to the guys are the wireless booth.

Yes, "for life". As long as you stay on the HSPA network, no migration to LTE. Unlimited calls and data only applies within the WIND Mobile service area as of on your sign up date. Phone upgrades and new network features require switching to an in-market plan. Acceptable Use Policy applies.

There, I just Verizoned the HMP.

Arguably Verizon could bridge the price/quality gap and bring the best of both worlds to WIND customers.

The market is already saturated with "Premium" providers anyway. There's no reason for an existing Robellus customer to move over to Verizon except for price, and maybe a niche roaming market in the US, if they can sort it out.

As it stands though roaming in the US is already cheaper for me than roaming on Rogers so Verizon would have to do some "figuring" to win that market over as well.

Then again grandfathering the plans in perpetuity, and continuing these plans on their expanded network could be a condition of market entry, that's optimistic, but I'd like to see it.

Not going to happen. The objective is to create sustainable competition - you can't do that by forcing them to offer $35 unlimited everything plans.

Remember WIND's original prices when they launched? The only reason their prices have gotten this low is desperation.

I do remember it, but they didn't lower their prices out of desperation, they did it to compete with Mobilicity, not that Mob is all but dead, expect their prices to go up no matter what happens with their ownership structure.
