yes and no...while that may have kept the torso in place, it still would do nothing for the neck...so simply replace "back and spine issues" with broken and messed up necks...the human head weighs something like 6 pounds...with extreme G forces, it can weigh 50-100 pounds, well above what the neck was designed to support...it is why race car drivers use the HANS device.

Was watching one of the news casts back around the time of the crash, and they were talking about how in previous crashes, people died on impact - in a totally liveable crash. They said the seats were then redesigned (years back) to be able to handle higher G force, which is what allowed them to live through the impact.

I would though like to praise the builders at Boeing.

That there was so little loss of life in THAT landing---that is a tribute to the design and structural integrity of the Boeing 777 plane.

Unless there is new information, I don't think they did, as I understood it. They did not evacuate for about 90 seconds on pilots' orders, then asked again when one of the cabin crew noticed a fire out over one of the wings, then I believe they got clearance to evacuate. Which, if this is accurate, is another black eye for the Asiana pilots.

I'm not sure I totally agree with that. The NTSB openly asked for all video of the Asiana crash. There have been other airline crashes where photographic or video evidence explained more than
the data boxes provided. Especially where there are major wire bundles feeding the black boxes are compromised.

US Navy video's all landings/takeoffs on their carriers.

Residents of the apartment towers lining Hong Kong's old Kai Tak airport would video just about everything - though it was a bit easier there due to having just one runway.

This airplane crash has 90 percent disappeared from US media, because of the Zimmerman verdict in Florida.

Yes, remember it well because it was December 7th, 2002, shortly after we observed the first anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, and when here in the metro NY area this was still constantly in our thoughts.

It was at a point in which we could start having some humor about terrorism (strange as that might sound) and it was well done.
