quote:The small Colorado town of Deer Trail is considering an ordinance that would create drone-hunting licenses and offer bounties for hunters who shoot down an unmanned aerial vehicle.
Three propeller-driven drones per season per license, one jet-powered drone per season per license, and unlimited "take" for drones that are armed. See the addendum sheet for a list and description of stealthy drones; these require a special separately-purchased drone stamp for the license. Please note that the department is exploring the possibility of implementing a "bounty" on each drone, requiring the hunter to supply the propeller(s) or turbine rotor (as appropriate) from each drone successfully downed as proof-of-kill, in order to receive payment of the bounty.
Not arguing with your opinion but.......... Come on out to Deer Trail and tell those red necks that to their face and they'll add you to the ordinance. They are almost as bad as the people in the town I work for. Some of them would shoot you for not living in their town. Oh and don't try to move in and make instant friends. They had a fourth of July picnic and if you came and weren't wearing your side arm you were viewed with suspicion.
Are they covered by the "Make my day" law? If I was sunbathing in minimal attire in a fenced back yard where no one could see me and a drone kept buzzing around?
I could honestly see drone losses getting pretty high over rural areas if they are actively deployed, Not out of deliberate targeting against drones themselves but because... Beer+rednecks+guns= Hey bubba I bet you a case of Budweiser I can hit that drone with my Winchester.

Bubba may be able to reach one of those remote controlled low flying toys but not Mil-grade UAVs up at 30,000 feet, and thanks to federal giveaways post-9/11 that's the kind of hardware local law enforcement agencies have access to now.
pfft... I have a whole squadron of Air Force drones stationed about a mile from me. Every time I walk out on the deck I raise both fingers in a patriotic gesture. Under different circumstances (like changing the letter behind the president's name from a D to a R) you'd start seeing towns passing drone-free zones like the no-nuke waste in place in many towns up here. I'd actually support a drone-free ordinance.
