Snake ban incoming...the seedy underbelly of democracy in action.

Conservation authorities found nearly 50 illegal pythons in a B.C. home Thursday.

Insp. Chris Doyle, of the B.C. Conservation Officer Service, told QMI Agency Saturday that the 46 reticulated pythons were euthanized the same day....

Ten days after a pet-store python killed two young Canadian brothers, authorities have seized 40 of the snakes at a motel in southern Ontario.

The constrictors, which ranged in length from 1 foot to 4.5 feet, were found Thursday in plastic storage bins and "were not being suitably cared for and were in distress," the Brantford Police Service said in a news release Friday.

The "anxious officers" who responded to the motel called the Brant County SPCA, which took the snakes into custody...

But would it constrict (2 kids) at the same time?

If it constricted the kids they never got a chance to make a sound, because as air is exhaled it constricts tighter.

i would assume if "I" think it doesn't make sense, the investigation team would too and would be (perhaps even quietly) looking at alternative possibilities.

The other possibility is that this snake had been so abused by its owners that its behaviour completely changed into something that wouldn't normally be expected.

Even getting stranger.

it still seems fishy...how could the snake fall through the ceiling, bite (did it bite?) the 2 kids and simultaneously suffocate both children, without either making a peep?

My uncle hunts with a crossbow and eats everything he kills (caribou or deer, usually). There's usually some for us as well. It's delicious. But while I was devouring my caribou filet mignon, I heard stories. Aside the fact hunting trips can be mighty expensive, I was shocked to learn there are MANY International or American tourists that pay up to 15,000$ a trip just to kill stuff.

I don't know if you read my reply above, but this was and enforcement issue and not a lack of regulation, African Rock Pythons had been banned in New Brunswick since 2009.

Getting some national regulation for dangerous snakes in Canada, or having a model law for the individual provinces to consider, should not be that difficult.

I am too cynical to believe anything will change, take Sandy Hook, oh how quickly the outrage and demand for change slid sideways into apathetic murmurings. Lac-Megantic will likely turn out to be the same, better regulations will be proposed, however implementing them is another matter and as the years pass, little will change, people will die, profits will be bolstered by cutting corners.
