There's usually some for us as well. It's delicious. But while I was devouring my caribou filet mignon, I heard stories. Aside the fact hunting trips can be mighty expensive, I was shocked to learn there are MANY International or American tourists that pay up to 15,000$ a trip just to kill stuff.

It would be an abomination in and of itself if they came to simply kill 'stuff'...it is far more hideous that this unfortunately as they come in droves to kill APEX predators. Here in Northern Ontario, 'sportsmen AND sportswomen' come to kill wolves. WARNING, UGLY LINK: »www.northernwoodslodge.c ··· ting.htm

We hunt baited sites from heated ground blinds. You are either taken to the blind in the morning and picked up at lunch time then returned until dark, or you can take yourself to and from your blind with your own snowmobile.

We have a great supply of bait and attract a lot of wolves with the average shot being about 80 yards. Wolves are not in a habit of making mistakes, so scent eliminator and quiet clothing are a must. After a successful hunt your trophy will be professionally caped and ready for taxidermy.

The pictures of these misguided fools as they pose with their 'trophies' is enough to incite murder, the fact that women are among the shooters ought to put to rest any notion that the fairer sex is any more enlightened.

Hunting for food? Aside for the MNR being chronically underfunded and unable to act before species become genuinely vulnerable, deer hunters in the region have done a good job of keeping ungulate population numbers from becoming a menace, although it took a bow hunt within city limits last fall to cull the herds down to manageable levels. From a species level perspective, their migration from more distant habitats into areas where human/deer interact is a concern, they become like rats with hooves and a very real threat to drivers. Moose populations, at least in NWO are fairly stable but trending downwards, Minnesota experienced a 30% decline in one winter for reasons unknown last year, if that is observed across our border I and other responsible stewards of the northland habitat would fully support a moratorium on the moose hunt until it recovers.

I fully realize that it is hard for some in the midst of their concrete jungles to grasp that if it wasn't for the hunt, people up here would not be eating. As it stands, the economy is in a bit of a boom and jobs are almost plentiful. The early 2000s told a different story, the last of the forestry mills shuttered, victims of globalization and Mcdaltons industrial energy pricing schemes. It was ugly, hunting during that period was subsistence based with 'poachers' unable to afford the tags that legalized the kill.

The dichotomy between killing for fun and killing to eat should be clear, unfortunately some seem make no such distinction as they stare down their noses at the steak on their plate.
--
»libertarian.on.ca/
