Re: Essential Service and/or Functional Separationthe only thing that could change things and make basic internet access an essential service is VOIP instead of POTS.
at the same time, there is only one phone company while there are many internet companies out there, so if it's down, move to one that doesn't have issues or that can resolve issues in a decent time frame. |

Wireless is not essential and never will be. Just like internet is not essential. |

Though 911 service through wireless can be used even if you're not a wireless subscriber. Provided it's not a major disaster and all the towers go down. |

Asking if VOIP is essential because of phone service, then should my Cellphone be the same. I wanted him to realize what he said. I already know the answer... Maybe cut me some slack or something... |

i don't even know what you're asking or why. you get free 911 calling from your cellphone as a requirement now. again you can get cell service from any provider while POTS is from one. |

Actually you can get POTS from many providers ... CLECs ... the telephone version of TPIAs. Granted the actual company providing is your incumbent phone company, but they aren't so messed up as the internet stuff, which is why there's such an uproar now. |

CLECs are more than the "telephone version of TPIAs". A CLEC has its own numbering resources, switching and in many cases, transmission facilities. |

Well I'm just saying should it become an essential service if you think Internet should be because of the 911 thing ? Free for cell ? It's probably just included in the price of the package now a days. Some ISP have POTS, like primus. Even telephone from Cable company is ok. |
