[HSI] New install: tech was going with Arris, but I declinedI should have researched this ahead of time, but unfortunately I didn't and had to make an off-the-top-of-my-head decision, since I arrived at my new place to move in moments after the tech arrived.
All I knew about Arris is that they're frequently despised for their unreliability in the Comcast world, though I knew that related to the gateway models. I wasn't aware that they made straight modems, but the tech said that it was just a modem. Still, I figured that it couldn't hurt to see if he had anything else.
He did, a Cisco DPC3008...which any thread around here will show has one and only one page on it. No log. No anything else. The modem works fine, but I do miss the other things, particularly the log.
Which Arris would it have been if I'd said nothing? Would I have been better off with it (is it reliable, unlike their gateways?)? How is its 100.1 page by comparison? |

Either the tech misspoke or had a relabeled Motorola (which Arris now owns). Otherwise, my guess is it was an eMTA. |

If it was a rebadged Motorola, especially an SB6141, that would have been ironic since it was what I was hoping for in the first place. I've lost track of the Motorola lineage.
But isn't the Arris CM820A a straight modem and what he might have had? |

I'm not familiar with that model. If that is being deployed now, I haven't seen it. |

Arris hasn't rebadged ANY Motorola CPE. |

anything Arris on charter is still their old eMTAs, which are notorious piles of crap. I have not heard of them using straight Arris/moto rebranded modems yet. |

Old? You're not referring to the D3 models, are you? They're far from "piles of crap". I use one myself for phone and HSI and it's solid. Never heard any credible complaints about them to make me feel they were inferior. |
