Help with wired connection

I just built a new computer with a MSI 970A-G46 AM3+ AMD 970 motherboard that has a ethernet connection on it. I also installed a PC-I express wireless card. Got the internet to work on the wireless card, but wanted to see if hardwiring to the router would improve my connection. In times past all I would need to do is plug in the cable and off I go. Now when I try to get the internet to work it tries to connect through WAN miniport (PPPoE) Error 651. I have cable for internet and I thought I read it uses a dynamic connection, but im unsure where to change this in Windows 7.

Thanks!

Control Panel > Network and Sharing > Change Adapter Settings. You will also probably want to turn off the wireless adapter in your PC.

Thanks for the reply.

Under network connections I had 3 options; broadband connection (disconnected, WAN Miniport), Local Area Connection (has the name of the mobo controller) and the wireless network connection (currently disabled) Looks like it had the broadband selected, switched to the LAC and it worked. Thanks.
