Re: Increase DVR storage

I used a 1TB HDD (or maybe it was 500GB at the time) inside an Antec MX-1 enclosure with great success. I currently am using the same old enclosure except with a 2TB Western Digital to expand the capacity of my UltraTV box.

That is an amazing idea, I didnt even think of trying it since the SA DVRs are so antiquated. Space is so tight and the record rules are so esoteric, that we (my wife &i) have had many a disagreement about what to delete to make sure the next scheduled show will record. It sucks that there isnt a master "always delete the oldest when recording" setting, and it just cops out on recording when it's full.

If you bring up the DVR recordings list, press "B" on the remote for preferences, you should have an option to enable Auto Erase. That feature automatically deletes the oldest recordings when there's no space left.

So do you have to use an enclosure? Does the drive have to be able to read a certain file type for the Scientific Atlanta DVR to read it?

Do I just plug in the external drive via the usb port on the front of the DVR?

I can probably snag a cheap drive on black friday that will suit my needs but I'm not sure what to get (LOL). I think 500GB would be plenty for my needs.

It looks like bestbuy is going to have this drive for $39.99 on black friday. Would this work?
