[iPhone] app to backup contacts and text messages?is there any app that will sync/backup over the air text messages? and maybe another to also sync / backup contacts? maybe someone can recommend anything... thank you! quote: clarification:
his [ »www.icloud.com/ ] is a bit like BlackBerry Backup or so and etc.. it will sycn/be accessible on other BlackBerry devices ... and that sucks..
On BB I use a app that is "auto forward SMS" like this »appworld.blackberry.com/ ··· &lang=en
this way I can reference ALL my text messages from years ago or from 3 min ago
as it happened I met net friends .. forgot my BB at their place ..
I just accessed my gmail where all text exchanges were and contacted him to pick it up..
u see the convenience ...
so my friend with iPhone said I'd love that... so I said I'd try to find it for her ..
hmm maybe there is something like it - should be easy app..

iCloud will backup all of your contacts and messages. It will also sync contacts and iMessages across your devices.
If you want your own backup - using iTunes to perform a backup also saves that information. There are a few tools around that can extract text messages from the iPhone backup, but I don't have much experience with them. |

No. That data is stored in a backup. There are tools to extract that data from the backup. iMessages are not accessible over the web. Other items are, however, via » icloud.com/ |

said by inGearX:he could do it via web? As the other posters said, no. It syncs across Apple devices - if he had a Mac or iPad, he could see his iMessages (any message that shows up in a blue bubble on the iPhone) on those devices. A green SMS is only available on the iPhone, and AFAIK, there's nothing that will sync them to the web. If you need to have your text messages on the web, you should port your number to Google Voice (or just get a new number). You can access texts from anywhere, but the interface on the iPhone is significantly worse. |

said by inGearX:hmm maybe there is something like it - should be easy app.. It seems incredibly insecure and ripe for abuse. I'm pretty sure Apple does not allow third-party apps access to the internal message database on the iPhone. It also doesn't allow them to intercept SMS messages. The best way to do this on an iPhone is with Google Voice. There may be some solution on a jailbroken iPhone, but I haven't come across it. |

Google Voice - this is for international SIM / operators ... so GV is no go thx for clarifying .. |
