Daylight Saving Time ends in 40 MinutesSo if you're reading this tomorrow and wondering why you're so out of sync with the world now you'll know BTW, it looks like DSL Reports is having a bit of difficulty dealing with the time change as well... |

Regards Really? I think I'd just rather have DST all year... It would be nice for it to be light out until 6pm even in the middle of winter - at least most people could avoid the commute home in the dark. Heck for that matter I'd rather us turn the clocks ahead by 2 hours in the winter and 1 hour in the summer... Who cares about 7am... it sure would be nice to be light to 7pm... |

Only have around 9 hours between sunrise and sunset in the middle of winter. To be light at 7pm would mean it staying dark till 10AM.
Also not caring about it being light early in the morning is why we have DST - we take an hour of light in the morning and move it to evening from March to November. |

No kidding, I don't really get the reasoning for DST... Most people would prefer the extra daylight end of day, rather than having some extra daylight in the morning when you're going to work or school... Some places get along without it just fine. |

You'll see a lot of confusing reports out there about it, saying that Russia abolished it. Actually, they abolished the SWITCHING, now each of their time zone is advanced one hour, all year round. » themoscownews.com/russia ··· oll.htmlActually, that's one hour ahead of standard time, but what Russia considers standard time is an extra hour ahead of mean solar time. So the Russians are actually on a year-round system of being TWO hours ahead of the sun. Most news accounts fail to make that clear. It will be an issue for the Olympics.... |

We have a complication Russia doesn't unfortunately... we try to keep all our timezones synchronized with the 800 pound gorilla on our southern doorstep. The problem with the gorilla is they have land that goes all the way down to 25 degrees latitude... where the length of the day in july isn't all that much different than january - only about 2 hours.... and you have us where much of the country is above 45 degrees latitude where the difference from july to january is something on the order of 8 hours of daylight. If we were on our own here - the 2 hours advance like Russia (which is all above 45 latitude except for 2 very small pieces of land - and the majority of the population is above 55 degrees including Moscow) would make some pretty good sense (yes dark till 9:30am would be fine by me and probably most people to have daylight until almost 7pm in the winter). It just means we'd be out of sync with the gorilla down south - which would make things very confusing and awkward - since we watch their TV, work with their businesses, etc. |
