Your assumptions are just that. In any case, there was certainly no commercial business there, ever. It is the original farmhouse for the land we are on, and it was always a residence.
What I do know is the local power company here had a big push for some years to convert homes to all-electric heat, and that was one of them, and it has at large service. It is possible they didn't want to run all that through meter lugs for some reason, and they decided to use the remote meter.
My point is, they do exist.
