[Rant] Do not order from Staples for delivery if you work
I ordered two tablets from Staples. I did not think about delivery being on their own trucks. So they only deliver 9-5. They try 3 times. After that they CANCEL the order. No option for pick up anywhere once it is sent to delivery. They WILL NOT re-route to a store or anywhere else once shipped.
I got so frustrated with this that I yelled at the poor lady on the phone.
This is fine for businesses but they are also selling to consumers who are generally not home during the day. The 9-5 is fine, they all do that more or less, but they need a pick up option after it is sent to delivery.
I have sent an email to their head office about it, but I thought I would pass it on for others in case you did not know about this and thought of ordering something from them.
I can top that. I ordered a Monitor from Dell on BF, 50 bucks, refurbished, but it'll suit my work area.
So it's out on delivery yesterday with UPS at 8:30am. Waiting.. still waiting (typically show up between 4 and 5). 6pm rolls around. I had plans to head out and watch Monday Night Football.
I call.. residential can be delivered till 7pm. 7pm rolls around.. still nothing. The reason I hung around is because it's a dell monitor and dell shipments cannot be redirected somewhere else.
I call again.. oh due to high volumes they might be out longer. WTF, am I supposed to sit here all day waiting for the clown to show up It's almost has bad as waiting for Rogers.
The person on the phone says she can't redirect it, but I can. I put a note on the door and sent it to my neighbours.
It showed up at 8:45pm!!!!!!! I find it hard to belive it's the same driver in the same truck that it was loaded into at 8:30 in the morning.
I had to actually re-order over the phone for in store pickup. They will not cancel or refund the first order until they try to deliver 3 times. So I have 2 of the same orders on the CC until they get around to refunding.
Not everyone has neighbours they know well enough to trust them with their packages.
In my case, I have packages either left at the building manager's office at home, or the nearest Purolator or FedEx store at work when ordered with the business credit card.
I have everything shipped to my office. Makes everything much simpler. I have my office address listed as "secondary address" on my credit card to minimise problems.
I'm aware that they ship via their own trucks. I've ordered by phone before and they made that fact perfectly clear when I placed the orders every time.
However considering there's at least a couple of dozen outlets in the GTA I really don't understand why you didn't just go and order your tablets in store? Or for that matter, failing that, have them deliver to a stay at home neighbour?
I imagine this was some sort of Black Friday special, but still, why didn't you specify instructions that they just leave it with a neighbour?
It was a special, I was ordering at 6 AM in case stock ran out.
Delivery to a neighbour? If I did not live in Toronto maybe. However I do not know any that would be home anyway.

Not an option for me.
I admit I did not check everything regarding delivery thoroughly. Who would expect them to NOT offer pick up if they cannot deliver?
Also ordered the day before was memory from NewEgg. It may or may not have left somewhere in New York yesterday morning. There is no tracking after that.
My experience with them is equally bad. I ordered a UPS on sale. I got my confirmation number, a tracking number and a delivery date and my CC was charged. On the delivery date, I work from home (I'm glad I have that option) and wait for my delivery. At 2PM, my phone rings. It's Staples telling me they cancelled my order because they don''t have any stock. WTF? So they re-order. A few days later, I'm working from home again, and at 10AM the phone rings. Guess what? They did it again. What a bunch of losers. I haven't ordered anything from then since.

Actually I'm in the same boat. Ordered some hard to find ram for a ultrabook based minipc.

This is common with UPS is res deliveries. I see these trucks very late in my area. And Canada post just puts a notice and takes off as fast as possible.
Last time I had similar problem like OP I had to pick up the package from Downsview centre which so far away for me. I could manage it to change the location somehow.
But I hate UPS people the way they deliver and deliver so late.
As i said up thread i get a ton of Eflyers and Dell's real site and their refurbished site are two of them.
I posted the monitor in the BF thread we had Dell Professional Series 2009W 20-inch Flat Panel Monitor , which is perfect for my needs, VGA/DVI and USB ports. perfect for working on PC's.
The few times i've missed a delivery they sent it to the UPS store around the corner, which is fantastic. Purolator used to have one further up on Kingston Rd, but they closed it down and now force me to head all the way up to the Finch and Midland area.
Ok. Send it to my work, and you can come get it. With the addition of a modest handling charge...
Modest? Normally it is not a problem, courier tries to deliver, I pick it up at depot. Just did that last week with my new Mac. Picked up at FedEx. I will pick up the memory for the same from Purolator (eventually).

tracking is very odd.
I checked the status on mine. "Incorrect/Incomplete address info". So I call Purolator. It is in the Scarborough depot but they do not deliver to my area. It is being rerouted to the location I normally pick up from.
