elefante72 posted : Define standard DVR. The latest generation of Xbox slim is not loud at all and consumes less than 70 watts. And guess what when you are done, you can sell your Xbox. Any cable box is money out the door permanently. Oh, and you can play games on it, consume video, youtube, vevo, etc...Sorry the Xbox is better than any STB out there.

I just sold an old xbox 4g slim which I bought for $120 refurb for $100 and it was almost 3 years old. $20 for 3 years...

You also turn it off when you are not using it, so overall it takes less energy usage. Booting takes 30 seconds.

I came from SageTV which was awesome, however I had my hand at TWC DVR which really sucks and I was not that impressed w/ Verizon QIP MRDVR. WMC software (Win 7) is VERY stable and mature.

Also I added Ceton Media center which cost a few bucks, and I can use my tablets or phone to schedule recordings, view the guide modify volume, change channels, etc for any extender in the house. It is AWESOME software.

You can also customize for media, skip channels automatically (comskip), and listen to music, etc. Also the Xbox has capability of running operator apps, Netflix, Amazon, etc.

As to utopia, the latest Tivo Roamio (6 tuner+) has sling capability that you are referring to. Tivo is far superior to any cable operator solution....

Also Silicondust HRHR Prime has DLNA, so you CAN watch TV over the network if you have a DLNA device. HDHR have been going on sale for $99 recently.

I cant speak to an echo, but why pay $170 for a piece of hardware they are not developing, versus a $120 refurb xbox which is faster and more versatile?

To get straight to the point - they all suck in comparison to a standard DVR. I heard Samsung came out with something (non-dvr), but there's no reviews, so I'm not sure if it's any good. You don't need hard drives anyway as the 4gb option will work just fine. I would never buy a Ceton Echo as the Xbox 360 is much more superior.

I really hope to see someone else come out with a great WMC extender though.
--
My domain - Nightfall.net
