Re: [Need Info] Adobe Flash Player putting my CPU fan into overdrive

I probably DO have a colony of dust bunnies: thing is, I have NO clue how to open the machine. It's an HP and I have yet to find how to open it (and being a klutz, hoping I can put it back together). This is what I have:

AMD Phenom 9550 Quad-core processor 2.20gHz
HP Desktop a6550f

Thanks in advance.

I'd say your processor is fine for the job, but you might just need to clear out some dust, otherwise if the fan is really loud, like it sounds really bad with grinding it might need to be replaced, they tend to be quite cheap.

Ask somebody you know to help you open the case, or find the manual, it shouldn't be that hard. Shops usually charge more than a job like that is worth, spraying a few dust bunnies, but the cans of air do cost a few dollars.

Did you mean a6650f, not a6550f? If so that GPU doesn't support GPU acceleration for Flash that means it is only using your CPU. Flash can be very CPU intensive as you already noticed, and the CPU fan spinning faster is a normal response to increased load & temperatures.

Bad typing fingers: it IS the a6650f -- sorry. Would the CPU intensive stuff you referenced also have to do with me sometimes getting a BSOD referencing the fan overheating?

Thanks very much !

Fans generally don't overheat, they simply slow down or stop. The processor chip overheats if the fan can't or doesn't do its job of moving cool air across the chip's heat sink fins, and that can create a number of problems, including blue-screening, all the way up to frying the processor (not cheap). At the first level, you need to get the system cooled down... either by cleaning out dust that's interfering with air flow or replacing any faulty fan(s), particularly if the machine is several years old. Computers in a typical location suck up dust, dirt, and lint faster than a vacuum cleaner. If you've got a clean system with good fans, then you can question whether the software you run is too intensive if overheating still occurs...
