Re: [Home Phone] Getting 2nd independent line and ph #

Thanks for replying.

The basic reasoning behind this is I'm looking for work living with my folks. They don't want to make changes to the phone line, cable or Net. I see this as a clean option to add a 2nd line. They were w/o phone service for months a while back when Rogers/Bell etc blamed each other.

There are some legit work from home options (ironically one of them for Rogers) and you need a traditional POTS line to receive calls. VOIP doesn't work with their service. Otherwise, I've used Tektalk before with Teksavvy at a different location and I would use it again.

There are other job options but I don't want to signup for Bell POTS line just to get this job.

I called Rogers CSR about Home Phone service and it was not made clear enough to me if the product I mentioned in my prev post allows simultaneous calls.

They do allow simulataneous calls. Only problem is if your phone jacks are only wired for two lines and if you already have one rogers home phone line and DSL you will not be able to wire your second rogers line through your existing jacks. You will have to connect the phone directly to the EMTA.

Sounds like you need to create a second account. You can order your own phone service, your own emta and just call it 1 main st BSMT apartment.

If your using the line for work purposes, it's all tax deductible. And then you just have the 2nd emta installed where your desk is, plug the phone in directly.

Or, like it's been said. You can add a 2nd number to the existing emta, if the tech can isolate a pair that goes straight to the jack your going to use, he will do that. If he can't, you get a jack installed free with the number, he will just need to staple a new piece of phone line from your current emta to your desk location.

A 2nd number, is about $10 / month vs a new service in your name at $30-$40.
