Why don't you start with pics. There is no way to guess what is involved without them. |

So you want to move it towards the Washer? There will be some sheet metal work involved, not a lot from what I can see and the gas line will need to be modified.
These two things are not terribly expensive to do. However expensive is a relative term: to some $500 is expensive and to some $5,000 is not. It depends on what the value of the finished project will be to you and how much you expected to spend.
Depending on where the wall falls in relationship to the vent could run the price up. If the new wall/room will not cover the foundation penetration for the vent, very simple. If the vent location needs to be changed, then the chimney will probably need to be modified which could get expensive.
Also, is it allowed to use the furnace and water heater on a common vent? This may need to be changed.
To do the gas and sheet metal I would budget $500-1,000. as a WAG.
Best to find a local guy and get him to look at it. While he is doing the work he can also add a supply and return to the new area. |

Totally do-able... Tin-banger and gas fitter will have some work to do; but nothing crazy.
Guessing $1500 range? But only way to know for sure is get a mechanical contractor out to look at it...
I would, however, suggest waiting until late spring before you get prices. With the cold snap the last 6 weeks or so; most HVAC guys have more work then they can handle, and are charging top-rates. This could be a nice little make-work job for a guy when he's slow; and you'd get a much-reduced price. |

I've wanted to turn my furnace. My furnace room is a rectangle, and my furnace is turned sideways in the room. I want it facing the door to the room. I got a quote of $500. My job would require sheet metal and gas line work too, but less than you. I'd just be turning on the spot.
So LazMan's figure seems pretty reasonable. Might be as little as $1000.
Gas fittings are cheap. But sheet metal and labour are expensive. |
